Right, even knowing it will be a great subcontinents fight, instead of what the maker thinks. :?

true that, dont think continents will end up mattering much.

Whats up with Europe? total sub-bonus of 5, total bonus of 11. All the other continents you get only a bonus of 2-3 men for holding the whole continent.

Bit late now, and i know you probably wont want to change it Zim, but maybe get rid of Poland out of Western Europe and make a new Subcontinent of Baltics, Ukraine and Moscova and call eat Eastern Europe or former Soviet or something like that.

Gavin,

I acknowledge that Europe is worth the most "extra" for the whole continent versus just holding it's subs that's just the way the borders of the subs worked out. I'm OK however with it being different from the rest as long as it's a viable continent in it's own right and I think it is.

As to your and Marvin's thinking on the full continent's not mattering I've said it before but I think it bears repeating, we'll see. I believe that the fulls will matter in flat rate and no cards games but I'm willing to be proven wrong as peope figure out the best strategy.

Thanks to everyone who has commented, suggested or critiqued the map it's much, much better than I anticipate in large part because of your input.

Looking forward to wiping the floor with you all on the map.

Cheers,

Zim

Will you change the map if you realize you are wrong? But I think change it later will be more difficult, because some people will not like the idea, we will have games going on it, so, I would like to see it changed now, but since we got no feedback, you can do what you think is better. I only think you will not change it later (due to complaints), although you will realize the point. But its ok, you can maintain it, and you probably will, so I will not comment playability. Only to mention, I was talking to Andy in MSN, he also believes the full continents will be hardly something important. Well, maybe a little continents crazy party can be interesting too, specially with continents designed like these (4 countries, 4 borders  )

If you dont like the way the map ends up being played out- dont play on it!! So what if it ends up being a war of subcontinents- you dont seem to be suggesting any specific alterations, just repeatedly saying that
Marvaddin wrote:I would like to see it changed

This whole map is based around the idea of subcontinents. Changing that would basically mean starting over, and creating a map that is practically identical to the classic one. Do you have a practical solution to your perceived problem?

Dont worry, its what Im going to do.
About your critics, looks like you didnt read the whole topic, since I was one of the guys that was posting the most, and very interested about it, until I realized the intention of produce a great mix of small/tiny subs.
I was giving many suggestions, including maps with different configurations of subs, and zim knows it. I can say I suggested many specific alterations, including a completely different South America (this one we have now). So, dont be stupid about what you dont know. By the way, I first suggested the idea of subcontinents, so why dont you shut up, huh?
And I mentioned the solution too, why dont you look for it in the thread? But looks like zim is not inclined to it, so do I need to post it again when he already knows it?
Finally, to me there is no problem about a crazy subs fight, I just dont think its zim's goal, capiche?

only thing I would like to see changed is the bonuses for sub continents so people actually make an effort to control a whole continent instead of capturing a bunch of small sub continents. It would probably break the traditional army bonus "rules", but I think it might make things a bit more challenging.

Either way I'll be playing this map a lot simply because it looks like an insanely good triples map to play on.

zim's map

I can't wait to play this map. Zim you did a great job and were very concerned with addressing any problems people had.

I am not worried about this being a sub-continent battle. I think this map just gives you more options for possible strategies. This way everytime you play you can play a different way instead of starting in the same place every game. (who doesn't love having a good foot hold in Oceania or S. America to start in the Classic map for example)

I'm sure people will devlope their favorites but this maps gives you lots of chances to mix it up. It will take a lot to get baord with this map, I think.

If anyone does have a problem with the sub continents just think of the map as a map with a whole bunch of small continents. Isn't that what all maps are anyway. this map is just super sized.

Anyway, the idea is to take them all so lets play it already.

Zim, great job, I can't wait to play.

Now that i really look at it, people will be getting large bonuses jsut for straight territories, plus subcontinents are almost like freebies in this map.

The onyl real way to gain a alrge advantage is to take a whole continent, since you get a hefty bonus form all the subs, and you cut down on borders.

Updated XML is at:
http://www.zims.com/blog/images/wmapxml3.xml

It checks out fine with Jota's checker and with his map tool however I'd welcome someone scrolling through it and double checking the sub/continent compositions.

For the record Marvaddin could stand to be more diplomatic but his comments and suggestions were a big part of making the map as good as it is.

Thanks are also due to everyone who commented along the way particularly gavin_sidhu, happysadfun, cowshrptrn, maritov and andy. I'm sure I'm missing a few others but I'm a little hung over and can't bring myself to traipse back through all 360+ posts so my apologies if I'e overlooked anyone.

Cheers,

Zim

The Final Forge period has concluded for the Accurate World Map. All objections have had their time. The Foundry and I hereby brand this map with the Foundry Brand. Let it be known that this map is now ready for live play (barring any Lack vetoes).
Conquer Club, enjoy!
