How? Well a group of respected Christian leaders gathered and gathered all the books that were used in the bible from all the churches around (this was quite a while ago) and voted on the books after weeks of prayer and diliberation. Some books wweren't even considered like the ones "The Divinci Code" is based on. (They read them and dismissed them) a basic criteria how widely they were used (thus the gospels were used) since almost everyone used them and those who didn't agreed that they were truth.

Yes that's it.. the ones left out went into the apocrypha

Just keep Leviticus and throw all the silly archaic nonsense away.

And this is the unwavering foundation of a religion? The opinions & votes of a group of men, many, many years ago? They just voted on what they believed, and carefuly pruned all the politically incorrect parts or those that might contradict or question things. Nice way to feret out the truth!

And you guys are baffled at why the athiests find this hard to swallow.

Again I will state that this is how the bible was decided on , not the religion... the religion is based on faith and knowing God, the bible is our guide, left by those who knew God to those who want to know God.. it by itself is not the religion like you make it out to be.

This is an article from Foxnews.com:

LONDON — Organized religion fuels anti-gay discrimination and other forms of bias, pop star Elton John said in an interview published Saturday.

"I think religion has always tried to turn hatred towards gay people," John said in the Observer newspaper's Music Monthly Magazine. "Religion promotes the hatred and spite against gays."

"But there are so many people I know who are gay and love their religion," he said. "From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

Religious leaders have also failed to do anything about tensions and conflicts around the world, he said.

"Why aren't they having a conclave? Why aren't they coming together?" he asked.

John said those in his own field have been similarly lax.

Grrrrr Its this hatred for Christianity that fuels Christian discrimination! It's not our fault that according to the Bible homosexuality is a sin. God said it and we believe it (most anyways). However, Christians are not called to "hate" gays. We are called to hate sin. Like any other sexual imorality. Elton John wants the "religious" to be accepting of homosexuallity. WE can not nor should not be accepting of anything that is an abomination to God.

I agree with your analysis 100%. Elton John's just doing what most typical celebrities do... it's a common pattern which is woven by (most of) those who acquire fame and fortune in entertainment.

The part I bolded is particularly true, and really needs to be more public. When one calls oneself Christian, it is generally assumed that they harbor hatred to groups such as homosexuals. It's not true. I hate homosexualITY. Sort of a "love the sinner hate the sin" type of deal.

And beyond the religious standpoint against homosexuality, from an evolutionary one, it makes no sense to be gay, and let not even start on diseases and such.

I feel soo dirty agreeing with Elton John. Apart from banning religion, with that I disagree. Kids might think it had something about it if it were banned; forbidden fruit and all that. God bothery is slowly perishing as people get educated and mankinds increasing knowledge decreases it's compass. Cling hard to your sinking ship.

Do we all have to live in an way that makes evolutionary sense? And how do you know a certain amount of same-sex lovin' doesn't make evolutionary sense?

EDIT: Just to add - are you perfectly clear just how nasty evolution is??

He's right, if it weren't for religion we wouldn't have to fight Al Qaeda. If the capacity to misinterpret Islam didn't exist (by Islam itself not existing), the Twin Towers would still be standing.

I think John Lennon said it best when he said:

"Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace"

Also, to quote Ted Nugent: "Organized religions are only good for Wars and Conflicts and Bitching and Moaning."

Elton John is right, and the only reason his comments are news is because he is famous. If Elton John was just some schmuck who works 9-5 like the rest of us then no one would listen to him.

Oh, and he never singled out Christianity, he was talking about all religion. Your interpreting it as an attack on Christianity is your own lookout.

Ok.. I stand corrected, hard to prove the bit about evolution. I'll change my point to .. What is there to seperate us as humans from mere animals, which I'm sure most will admit are quite discusting in the things that they do.. What level of civilized thought must we have to be above them??

If you hate the thing people do, you hate the people doing it simply by extension. It's true of most christians and non-smokers.

Not true at all. My grandpa was a smoker. I never hated him. My best friend is a liberal. I don't hate her. I'm sure you have things similar to this in your own life as well.

Then with the invention of pants it is implied that those who would wear them know how to control the contents in a civilized way.

Ah, sorry, I should've said "Anti-smoker."

I believe that smoking is a drug and that it is therefore immoral to smoke. I guess that makes me an anti-smoker. On the same note, I STILL have never hated my grandfather.

I think masturbation is immoral, but obviously I don't hate everyone who masturbates. Quite to the contrary, I pray my heart out for them because many of them are my close friends I really wish they would stop, for their own sakes.

edit- though I see you've edited the post I quoted above anyways

Although, if they are a furry, that might encourage them to masturbate further (considering that catgirls are pretty).
