Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
Latest "parents are visiting" anecdote.
To get this you must have the following information:
(i)My Mum is pretty well deaf (partly genetic, I'm going that way myself, though not to the same extent) - and partly due to a physical trauma (which I might tell you about when I'm feeling less cheery).
(ii) My Tad is not so much hard-of-hearing as hard-of-listening.
With that in mind, let's visit the conversation this afternoon...
Me: (to them both)Would you like to go to G's concert tonight? (my son's school concert)
Mum: Eh? (not hearing)
Tad: Grunt (not listening)
Me: I said, would you both like to go to G's concert tonight?
Mum: Eh?
Tad: (cough)
Me: Who would like to go to G's concert this evening?
Mum: (Looks at Tad, who has finally listened to what I said, sorta)
Tad: We're all going to G's concert this evening.
Me: No, I was just asking...
Mum: Whassat?
Tad: (making exaggerated mouth movements) We...Are...All...Go...ing..to...G's ...concert...to...night.
Me: (sharply) I was asking if you wanted to...
Mum: (to Tad) Well, you don't have to make a pantomime out of it!
Tad: (not pantomiming) Well, you can't bloody well hear what I'm saying if I don't!
Mum: Wassat?

That's a funny story. I wish stuff like that was happening around here, but unfortunately it's been really boring.

I do love them both dearly, after all I paid their air fares for the visit - this is a good "anonymous" place where I can blow off steam about the inevitable frustrations.
My wife has the day off tomorrow, and we're all going into the Big Apple. I am sure there will be further relatable anecdotes after that.

Yeah, It seems that people get funnier as they get older. Like my grandmother. She developed a taste for a certain brand of red wine when she was about 74 and while I wouldn't call her an alcoholic, she does occasionally get a bit tipsy. there was this one time where we were going to an American-Japanese crossover restaurant to celebrate my sister's engagement. We ordered sushi as an apetizer and it came with wasabi. I took a bite of it and all I remember was that this stuff was very, very hot even for wasabi. I literally couldn't take even the smallest amount possible without watering at the eyes. My grandmother during this time had been talking to my sister and hadn't noticed that we had appetizers. But after a while she looked over and she said "OOH! I love guacamole!" She then took the whole thing of wasabi (and there was a lot of it) on her spoon and swallowed it all at once.jonesthecurl wrote:I do love them both dearly, after all I paid their air fares for the visit - this is a good "anonymous" place where I can blow off steam about the inevitable frustrations.

BAM! I'm going to a friend's High School Graduation tomorrow. Odd thing is, he's only 6 days younger then I am, but he's a year behind!

Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
Good. Good. I've been writing a lot lately, though most of it's just been writing, then erasing and finally starting over completely. I'm trying to get a kind of sci-fi/fantasy series out and since it's a serious of stories rather than one long one like I am used to doing, I'm having more trouble than I would usually.apey wrote:Alright just busy with the new baby

Re: the longest thread, thread - Occasionally NSFW
Sorry mate.
Apparently I have to post the photos to an external site before showing them. Not something I've done before, haven't had time to work it out with Tad and Mum still here.
I may change my avi for a day or so to show you for the moment - but for now, I haven't even had time to download the pics to my own computer.
Oh. and they are so close up, my claim that I'm not allergic to wolves is proven.

Really? Well, at least that's one thing you're not allergic too.

I have heard that one of the most common food allergies is to tomatoes (and yes, I know that, as we read this, we are pronouncing it differently).strike wolf wrote:Really? Well, at least that's one thing you're not allergic too.
For me I can think of no greater torture, unless it were determined that I was allergic to hops...
