Re: Switzerland v18--May 12--PAGE 1+12 [I]
thanks for cleaning up the first post... basic info would be helpful as well - image size, number of territories.
I know you have another update coming, but here's what I see so far in terms of gameplay:
• The route of the mountains in Uri aren't entirely clear; somebody could misinterpret them and think they cut Rui and Brig off from Tecino.
• Vaud looks like it is in a different region from its army circle; take some liberties with teh border to make the thin stretch a little wider.
• Everything about Shaffhausen makes it easy to overlook; text fades into the background, the army circle looks washed out, and the border is so short you could miss it entirely. Again, take some liberties with geography and make it more pronounced, especially the border with Thurgau, which will be lost completely on the small map.
• Personally I'm not a huge fan of having different borders between territories and regions, especially if it means changing the weight of a single line as you do in some places. If the colors are different enough the borders can all be the same in my book.
• Thun - Luzerne... do they connect?
• I will ask of you my favorite question: if you were playing a game with, say, four players, and you got to choose which region your armies predominantly dropped in, which would it be? Is there one region of the map that will be easy to hold and expand upon?
Alright, looking forward to the next update.

Its really strange. Most of the threads were fixed when they were moved to the Main Foundry...but this one seems to not work still.bryguy wrote:idk why, but u got 3 of each choices
Either way, just ignore it and post which you prefer.

Re: Switzerland v19--May 23--PAGE 1+14 [I]
I must say I'm not fond of this brownish red, worse with small picture like chocolate boxes made for tourist. I liked more the island effect you get in v05 when you put the big picture in background but the way you treated the picture and the picture itself weren't convincing. But For the moment the most convincing version is the last without image, as I said before you put some 1910 heimatstil (homeland style) feeling in your entire map so it's the most coherent.

Pamoa, if i understand correctly, you want a picture to take up the whole BG?
and lol, 22 people didnt vote in the poll! It said 18, then i decided to vote-- and now its says 22!

Re: Switzerland v19--May 23--PAGE 1+14 [I]
I'm between a full bg image which should match your color scheme (maybe a drawing) and the brownish red with white cross which until now the most coherent bg you put. But as i said I don't really like it.
But don't worry klap it's only a BACKground, btw which is your favorite?

I personally like the the first option that i put up, the red BG and the big cross. I think it looks nice, and doesnt distract from the playable map.
So what happened to all those people who were here...this is getting little feedback...

Re: Switzerland v19--May 23--PAGE 1+14 [I]
I don't like any of the options to be honest.
I'd say try out putting the surrounding areas/countries on the map instead.
The pictures just don't look good. You can hardly tell what they are.
The old one just didn't do anything for me.
The flag just doesn't seem to work.
I'd say a smaller version of the flag for the title to sit on could be nice.

Re: Switzerland v19--May 23--PAGE 1+14 [I]
The map title is cumbersome and does not look good. I suggest making it something like this:
Switzerland
Svizzera - Schweiz - Suisse
Also I am going to comment about the colours. I have been bashed repeatedly, especially in my Cyprus map because some users insist that the colour scheme I used does not signify Cyprus to them. Well the colour scheme you used has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Switzerland. I think you should use something that is more typically associated with Switzerland.
Apart from that it's looking good.
Edit: The region names are not great either. Zurick influence? I don't like how that sounds. Also I am not sure if you're going to use French speakers or Romandie? Use Francophone or something like that if you must. However it would be better to name the regions after something more geographic so I prefer Romandie.

What colors do you suggest are more "Switzerlandish"? According to a couple of people, blue water, green grass, white/gray snow, purple/orange flowers. i dont really know what else i could put...
The names are from pamoa, i can use just "Zurich" if you thikn that is better-- but if pamoa says this is the most accurate, it i think these would be the best.

Re: Switzerland v19--May 23--PAGE 1+14 [I]
I am not sure about the colours. You need red. It's present in the flag. Maybe green and blue for grass and water. White for snowy mountains. You have enough colours there to add a different shade as well for your 5th region. I don't like purple/orange...they don't remind me of Switzerland. Maybe red and two shades each of green and blue?Kaplowitz wrote:The title will be changedRuben Cassar wrote:The map title is cumbersome and does not look good. I didnt change too much...still dont know about the BG. So far i like this the best, but others dont.
I also didnt change the colors/continents-- i want more opinions on that.
All i did was some text changes, and I changed the title.

Re: Switzerland v20--May 28--PAGE 1+15 [I]
i dont like the way that the legend/title have a sort of apple crunched mark, i know theres not much you can do, but when i think switzerland i think pure - and that just says un-pure
Re: Switzerland v20--May 28--PAGE 1+15 [I]
I can take that out and put it behind the land if that would help
Re: Switzerland v20--May 28--PAGE 1+15 [I]
I agree with Tom - it looks like someone took a bite out of the legend and title backgrounds

Map title is much better. Well done.
Legend issue raised by some people: why don't you shift the entire map a bit to the North East and incorporate the region names in the mini map which could then be expanded a bit more thanks to the map shift?
About the background...once again I'm going to say what people always tell me in maps I make. I'm surprised they haven't pointed this out to you already. Switzerland is surrounded by other countries. Literally it is the heart of Europe. Why not add the borders of France, Germany, Italy, Austria...?

Pamoa knows more for sure but I don't like Zurich Influence and Bern Dominion. What are those regions called in reality?
actually they are not region as the concept didn't exist in the swiss politic context.
For Bern dominion you can maybe say Mittelland.
But the Zurich influence isn't any region at all and I haven't a clue for it.

THe background coloe should most definetly stay dark, or neutral. The swiss being a neutral country may work with neutral colours.
I definetly like the legends and title area. There safe dont change them.
Mountains and rivers im not so sure about. There both to thick/bulky and get in teh way of everything else. Thin them out and make them less intrusive should do the trick.

I personally think the mts and rivers are OK. Those are what Switzerland is most famous for, and should be represented well on the map. Mibi said that there was not enough mountains on the map, i think making them smaller would be bad.
Although it may look like that, im trying to go for a clean and simple style. And that's not plastic wrap, that's just a white square with no fill, low opacity, inner shadow, bevel, and a stroket-o-m wrote:im not too keen on the filter you've applied to the mini-map - plastic wrap filter?
