Heard a great joke on Mock the Weeks before, something like this: "After the 2003 WC, we were thinking of making Rugby our national sport. Then we realsied only 8 countries in the world play it, and 4 of them are us!"Phobia wrote:haha, its gonna be great, predicting England 0 - 7 BrazilTitanic wrote:Cant wait for the mauling tonight from Kaka and Brazil. That's weird you should say that, because actually, I was only reminded of him - for some reason, maybe a newspaper article or something - this year. The last I knew of him was when my granny was a fan, and she died over 10 years ago. So, yes, when I saw his image, I did immediately think he looked a fair bit older than I expected him to.heavycola wrote:He's getting on a bit these days though eh?
He could still easily lead a dangerous religious cult just with his eyes, if he wanted to, though.

Either you, or the author, probably meant "Twm Shon Catti". Much later than the English one, and not to be confused with.Iliad wrote:I know Wales, cause I read a book about Robin Hood set in Wales: the author researched Robin hood and thought that he might have been Anglicized, but was actually Welsh. Re: Is england overated?
I am of English descent (well, for the last 1000 odd years according to the lineage I belong to so I reckon I am pretty much English)
I really don't think about it unless I am in parts where johnny foreigner runs riot. Then, one of two things happens. Either they hate me (mostly) in which case I hit them with my swagger stick and get them to carry my bags, or they like me (not very often) in which case one of two things happens. Either they do understand me (in which case I just get them to carry my bags) or they do not understand me, in which case one of two things happen. Either I shout louder until they do understand so they can carry my bags or I hit them with my swagger stick and shout at them until they carry my bags.
It is a great experience being both a male and an Englishman, oh yes indeed it is definite case of being blessed twice over.

Like your "None of this is true approach" - give Putin a call, i'm sure he's a job for ya.megarman1 wrote:Im welsh and i belive that england is rubbish its 3 times bigger than wales and took them many years to take it and longer for scotland and ireland and only the north of it, and almost all of there wars where won because of help from other countries
I'm being a bit harsh - i think you're right about the relative size of the countries.
I love comparing the size of contries, it so endlessly fascinating to shout out "Look texas is bigger than england", "russia is bigger than texas " etc - its a game that works on so many levels.
Do pipe down, boyo.

England's a pretty good country to live in. I mean, you do get a load of fucking retards who vote for Boris Johnson on account of him being quite funny on 'Have I Got News For You?', which is hardly the best criteria for choosing an administrator IMO. But generally it's quite a good bit of the UK.
Wales is a fucking great country, though.

I love this green and pleasant land.
Sure it rains far too much, but if it didn't rain so much - it wouldn't be green.

Re: Is england overated?
The vast majority of this thread is flaming BS so im going to ignore what you all said and just answer the first question.
I think the problem with the Welsh's national identity is that they dont really have anything that stands out about them. When Americans here Scotsmen they can think of some ginger person wearing a Kilt and playing the bagpipes (or Willie from the Simpsons), while this may not be entirely accurate at least it gives us an identity.
Anyone who doesnt realise that the UK is a seperate thing from England and that thinks they are the interchangable is ignorant. Its like saying Canada is part of the US.
I have nothing against English people only their media. Espicially in sport, when England do well all the coverage is on their success and when they do badly its about Englands failures they never talk about how well or badly Scotland/Wales/N. Ireland are doing. For instance when Scotland beat France 1-0 in France the main headline on BBC was about how England had beaten Russia fair enough Russia are a decent side but our result was by far a bigger upset and should have definately been the main headline, Scotland managed second place in an article where they had said the manager was Walter Smith when in fact it was Alex Mcleish. This is a minor example there are many more they are just talked about 24/7 in the press and some are completely arrogant in their nation. Look at the odds for the 2010 world cup, England are third favourites and the favourite European side to win it. This is despite the fact they failed to qualify for the European championships.
Again I would like to repeat I dont have anything against England except from their media in sport.
