Mario Kart Wii
And lo, I was at a party today, and the host had a copy of Mario Kart Wii, and it was good.
With the impending widespread US release, I thought it might be fun to A) talk some shit and B) perhaps get a online game of CCers going (the concept of playing mario kart online makes me an extraordinarily happy panda).
And let me just say, I might be decent at non-hasbro world domination, but I am superb at mario kart.

its quite a bit different than super mario kart, i would imagine, which was probably one of my early favorites as far as video games go.

My apartment mate owns a Wii, but the only non-sport/FPS game he has is SSBB.
Would it be worth the money to go out and buy this game?

Re: Mario Kart Wii
Ive got to think it would likely be a decent small gathering game or at least for the couple of you. A few of my buddies got double dash a few years back, and it was a pretty decent buy as far as use went.

There are actually 4 of us... not that that makes a difference. Or does it?got tonkaed wrote:Ive got to think it would likely be a decent small gathering game or at least for the couple of you. A few of my buddies got double dash a few years back, and it was a pretty decent buy as far as use went.
Anyways, I didn't like dash that much. I prefer the classic Mario Kart 64, as opposed to Nintendo trying to change it up; but who knows, maybe I can steal $50 from my mate, buy WiiKart, and give it to him as a gift.

Re: Mario Kart Wii
There were 4 of us in the place, with people coming over we pretty regularly had 4 people on the sticks. I dont play much on the wii to be honest, and id agree about liking some of the older versions.
I just think it might have decent value as a multiplayer game, which unless you have a number of systems and are on some version of teh live (we had a fair amount of xbox live at our place this year) those games work pretty well to get everyone together.

Re: Mario Kart Wii
16 new courses + 16 classic courses (with slight upgrades)
up to 4 players playing at home w/o being connected online.
up to 12 players online.
you can use the wheel, or a classic controller or gamecube controller, a combo of the wii remote and nunchuk.
i think the courses are designed pretty well and the concept of the wii wheel makes the game that much more fun. it takes a little getting used to as far as how far you have to turn the wheel to get the right amount of drift or turn of the tires, but that doesn't take long to learn. unlocking everything shouldn't take you more than a few days at most. the real value in the game, like most people said, is in the multi-player aspect (both at home and online).
imo, it's worth the 50 bucks.

Re: Mario Kart Wii
It is fookin brilliant. My advice for the loaded is to ignore the steering wheel and buy an old-stlye controller; makes it like SNES powered up. Love it. Tiger Woods golf is still best of all tho.

I love my Wii... I totally plan on getting this, and now, on your recommendations, I shall.

Such as Bully and Godfather. I'm not a fan of Mario-based games, usually.

I'm considering buying a wii just so I can buy this game. You guys think it's worth it? Or should I just stick to the nintendo emulator's and instead buy a PS3 or Xbox 360?

wii is fun if you play it with friends often.bedub1 wrote:I'm considering buying a wii just so I can buy this game. You guys think it's worth it? Or should I just stick to the nintendo emulator's and instead buy a PS3 or Xbox 360?
xbox360 is fun if you don't mind buying a crappy version of a PC with HD technology that's going to be obsolete in the near future.
ps3 is fun if you don't mind having 0 games worth playing until the 3rd-4th quarters of this year.

Re: Mario Kart Wii
Is it worth it to buy a wii solely to play kart? No.
Is it worth it to buy a wii to play kart, mario galaxy, wii sports, zelda, smash brothers (which I'm not a huge fan of, but lots of people seem to enjoy), and all the virtual console games? Hell yeah.
Finally got my copy of kart hooked up last night. Let's just say that if there were any possible way that I could've skipped work today, I would've.

the most basic xbox360 includes hdmi output at 1080p. How is that going to be obsolete in the near future? what is better than hdmi that the wii has?savant wrote:wii is fun if you play it with friends often.bedub1 wrote:I'm considering buying a wii just so I can buy this game. Re: Mario Kart Wii
hmmm that assures that I shall get it , and I'm going to make myself broke. Also we should play SSBB for the ones that have it. I haven't played online much lately. (Cause I'm lazy like that and other reasons.
) Though I'm a bit busy with another game which I think will probably be better, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2.
(I <3 it.)

I couldn't really get into ssbb. The single-player adventure mode was fun, but actually playing against other people (especially online) was kind of a drag, mostly since I was simply unwilling to put in the kind of time that would allow me to defeat bored teenagers that would be playing the game five hours a day after school...
at least with mario kart, I have a long, glorious history to fall back on.

Re: Mario Kart Wii
I spent my high school years playing OG kart on the super nintendo, my college years absolutely whomping all comers in 64, and my mid-20's trying like hell to get all firsts in that brutal 16-course supercup in double dash (never quite got it, I'd have times where I'd win 15 races and just get squeezed out in one due to a barrage of blue shells or what not... koopa and diddy kong were a lethal team).
I've actually played a bit of kart wii online, which was alternately thrilling and humbling.

Re: Mario Kart Wii
We've got a Wii and 360 in our apartment, and the combo is great. Forgot about the PS3, with Wii and the 360, I assure you will never get bored. Note though, that if you have a 360, you should probably get Livebedub1 wrote:I'm considering buying a wii just so I can buy this game. You guys think it's worth it? So, basically: If you can afford it, get both the Wii and 360; but if you can't, go with the 360+Live.Both have their pros and cons, so it's useless arguing which is better.
Hope that helped somewhat.

Edit: Also I need to get Mario Kart Wii.
Also, I spent by first halp of childhood on N64 games, especially Kirby 64. <3 And then the next half on gamecube/ Wii games, mainly Melee and Brawl.
