Monthly challenges are moving to the big time. Larger clan challenges are now open. Only serious clans apply.

Fears are scary things, such as fear of rust from inactivity. Sooner or later those G1 mouths will rust up after we disassemble them piece by piece. ;)

I've tried a couple of times to get something rolling with you guys. I just keep not hearing back from your folks about conditions.

xxtig12683xx sent me a PM the other day saying you guys might be interested in a 21 game jaunt, but to be honest, I'm still a little pissed about the Strider24 nonsense, so if you want a piece of us, it's going to have to be bigger than 21 games. Something like 40-45 or so.

We'd be interested in something that involves some 1 vs 1, doubles, triples and a handful of quads if you are. Let me know.

OMG, get over the whole strider thing already, lol, we have a 1 clan rule. We didn't twist his arm, saying he had to stay with LoD, we gave him an option, he choose us.

Anyways, lets get together tonight and start hammering out some details, ill be around from 6 pm. est on.

Actually, last I checked, you refused to let him stay with LoD on other sites unless he stayed with you here. ;) That would be some slight arm-twisting if you ask me, but that is neither here nor there.

I'll see if I can catch you this evening and we'll work out some details. I think I'll have my work for Finals done by this afternoon sometime.

Well looks like I may be Co-Hosting this one.

How about a format like:

13 1v1 We pick 6 home you pick 6 home and 1 on Classic
13 2v2 We pick 6 home you pick 6 home and 1 on Classic
9 3v3 We pick 4 home you pick 4 home and 1 on Classic
9 4v4 We pick 4 home you pick 4 home and 1 on Classic

The classic setting can be Classic, Seq, Flat, Chain (changing the last map due to size if need be) but we can discuss prefered settings.

That's 44 games I beleive and if it does come to a tie we can do a tiebraker quad game (again can be discussed).

So what does everyone think? Enough games Optie?

Yeah, 44 games could be very doable for us. We'd like to go a bit heavier on the doubles though, any chance we could take a couple of the quads games and add them to the doubles, maybe go with 15 doubles and 6 quads?

I'm assuming no Fog of War or Freestyle will be involved of course.

Quick question, are you guys really interested in having the possibility of a tie? I'd be alright with bumping it to 45 games or down to 43 so we can have a clear winner. Ties seem a bit boring to me, thoughts?

Yes, a tie would just seem like a waste

so 45, or 43 should be good, but as far as striders breakdown...

i would also like to see more doubles, triples, and quads...personally unless you guys really want it i dont even see the need for singles games as i think they are 75% luck of drop and dice.

as for map setting, i think we should pick and set up 22-23 maps/games and G1 21-22, as there is no way i would want a war to be solely on classic map. We could come up with a list of maps that cant be used if thats the case also.

just some more food for thought.

That set up can eb easily tweaked. It was set up like that so each clan has same amount of home and away games in each catagory(sp?) and a final game on classic. So....

13 1v1 We pick 6 home you pick 6 home and 1 on Classic
15 2v2 We pick 7 home you pick 7 home and 1 on Classic
9 3v3 We pick 4 home you pick 4 home and 1 on Classic
6 4v4 We pick 3 home you pick 3 home

43 games?

If we up anything I'd rather up the doubles rather than triples or quads. It seems that doubles is a universally accepted team format, whereas triples and quads are not. Some clans play more on those, but some don't. I'm not saying that G1 is favored in doubles, I just think that more players across the board have a decent amount of experience with doubles.

What if we did:

10 1v1 (5 LoD choice/5 G1 choice)
18 2 v 2 (9 LoD choice/9 G1 choice)
9 3v3 (4 LoD choice/4 G1 choice/1 on Classic)
6 4v4 (3 LoD choice/3 G1 choice)

Another thought (something my clan guys have suggested in recent weeks would be to have some 1v1 "series" that count as 1 point for the challenge, and not just solo games. So we could do like 5 "best of 5" series instead and put the other games somewhere else.

As far as maps go, I'd rather not do the whole thing on classic either. Our last two challenges were on a single map, and while it was fun and we all had a good time it was a slight bit bland after awhile.

I say we outlaw the gimmicky maps. I've got a couple players that specialize in those, as I'm sure you do as well, but the playing field is more neutral to start on the standard gameplay maps if you ask me. Give a slight advantage for picking a map you like, but NOT for being super proficient in wierd gameplay options.

That idea for the 1 v 1 i like alot, and the spreading of games is getting better, we have to define gimmick maps though, as some people have told me italy was a gimmick map because of citi bonuses

aslo, limit to # of games a player can play in?

With the sinlges how many people will be playing a in 1 series? 1 person? Also how many do we want? and How many games 5 or 3?

That setup looks fine. As for the gimmik maps we can make a list and edit it. When we have finished planning, creation of games. Everyone makes the home game they play on and we send PM's to the organisers or the shall the organisers make the games?

Each "series" of 1 vs 1 games would be 1 player from each side. They would play 5 games, with the person first to win 3 of them earning 1 point for their clan in the score for the overall challenge. I say we have 5 series of 5 games each. That gives each clan the opportunity to play 5 players. We'll have 1 series be entirely on the Classic map, and the others we'll give LoD "home advantage" for 2 series and G1 "home advantage" for the other 2. That sounds pretty good right?

As for game creation, I'll have my players make their games and give me all the numbers and password, then I'll pass them on to whoever the official representative is for LoD and they can pass them out to the LoD players that need to join. If you guys would do the same I would greatly appreciate it. Have your players make their games when the time comes and then send me a batch of numbers all at once. That is the least confusing way to do it I think.

In regards to gimmick maps, these are the ones I normally count as "non-standard" when I'm working on tournaments:

Age of Merchants, Age of Realms: Magic, Age of Realms: Might, Bamboo Jack, Battle of Actium, Chinese Checkers, Circus Maximus, Conquerman, Duck and Cover, Dungeon of Draknor, Feudal War, NYC, Pearl Harbor, Prohibition Chicago, Solar System, Battle of Gazala, Waterloo, and Valley of the Kings.

I think that pretty much all the others have almost standard gameplay, with the exception of a couple that have the "citta bonus" type of thing, but I wouldn't consider that gimmicky. It's an easy to understand feature that everyone should be able to handle just fine. Thoughts on that list? I would also say to exclude Doodle Earth, but that's just me. World 2.1 is useful for things such as quads though, so I don't know how you guys feel about that one.

xxtig12683xx wrote:aslo, limit to # of games a player can play in?

I don't know about you guys and if you have a problem with it, but my guys usually do a really good job at spreading themselves out relatively evenly. So unless you are worried about it, I wouldn't say we really need a limit on that type of thing. Let your guys who enjoy doubles play in the doubles, the guys who like 1v1 play those, etc, etc, etc.

So, this is what I would propose for the final setup:

6 — Best of 5 Series (LoD Home Advantage 3, G1 Home Advantage 3)
21 — Doubles (LoD Choice 10, G1 Choice 10, Classic 1)
12 — Triples (LoD Choice 6, G1 Choice 6)
6 — Quads (LoD Choice 3, G1 Choince 3)

Total Games: 45

And do you wish for LoD to open the seperate call out thread and keep score or for Gen 1?

I'll get the Callout thread set up in the next day or so. I'm kind of picky about how the information is displayed. Shall we shoot to have games to each other by about Sunday or Monday? That gives us each a week to get our players rounded up and the games created.
