user named HermannGoering
I didn't put this in the abuse section, because as far as I can tell, he/she doesn't cheat, and is strategically very good.
However, this handle is highly offensive, and I'm wondering why it is allowed.

It is possible, that some other real person have same Name like Herrman Goering?
Re: user named HermannGoering
I agree! It is as strong a possibility as being christened after the shortened nickname for the configuration of a type-writer keyboard!qwert wrote:It is possible, that some other real person have same Name like Herrman Goering?

on this site we play a wargame where the objective is to completely annihilate the enemy and conquer the world, country, city, etc. Hermann was a dude who tried to do that very thing.BENJIKAT IS DEAD wrote:A little history lesson? : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_G%C3%B6ringgreenoaks wrote:what's offensive about it ?

so once again, what is offensive about using his name and not others ? afterall there are people on this site using ghengis khan as the basis of their username. he had a procedure known as measuring the linchpin. that is where you are passed before the wheel of a wagon and anyone whose head rose above the linchpin was beheaded. in effect the enemy tribe would cease to exist. genocide.

i do agree.. many historical figures have 'murdered' raped and conquered.. it is just who wins that makes the difference as to how easy it is for us to remember them.greenoaks wrote:on this site we play a wargame where the objective is to completely annihilate the enemy and conquer the world, country, city, etc. Hermann was a dude who tried to do that very thing.BENJIKAT IS DEAD wrote:A little history lesson? : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermann_G%C3%B6ringgreenoaks wrote:what's offensive about it ?

I really see no offense here, all you have managed to do is to make the CC community aware of yet another vague slur, that potential ass's can use. Did you know that eating with your left hand is highly offensive in some cultures, as well as giving the 'ok' sign with your fingers in a certain position is considered calling a person an a-hole in others. Geesh, if CC took the time to make sure everyone avoided every type of cultural slight, we would all be pretty silent in here. Get over it, suck it up , and stop being such a hoser. EH!

I was born on a Sioux reservation. Not full blooded indian but enough to be called indian. There is a player named Custer that gets into a few of my games. Do i get upset, NO. Do I say Change your Name , No. Do I put him on ignore, NO. I Play him and try my damnedest to beat him. we have played 10 times he won 4, I won 3 and somebody else won 3 So custer is ahead.
If you do not like a name then beat it off him

You are entitled to your opinion. I happen to agree with you. I am sure a player called Hitler was told he could not keep the name.Steppin Razor wrote:I didn't put this in the abuse section, because as far as I can tell, he/she doesn't cheat, and is strategically very good.

Vague slur??? Have you even heard of the Holocaust? But thank you for pointing out the CC is pretty much pro nazi. That is what you're saying, right?

Re: user named HermannGoering
A player in a game alerted me to this thread - I never for one minute thought I could arouse such controversy over the use of a name (not a statement, but merely a name).
For the record I was very drunk when I joined CC (weren't we all?) and had intended to go by the handle of Erwin Rommel - a rather more dignified general - but got my names confused. Probably something to do with having just read a book on the subject and it was floating in my paralytic subconscious. So I apologize for that and for any offence it may cause or have caused.
I do find it remarkable that someone (Benjikat Is Dead) would put me on her ignore list - we haven't even played a game. I happen to have had a cat called Benji that was run over by my neighbour's chauffeur, so I find the moniker she is using to be particularly distressing. I would however be happy to show her the error of her ways by knocking the stuffing out of her in a game on here. Too bad she's shying away.
One correspondent wrote "Hermann Goering is a racist term for Asians". Really? That's a new one on me. I would have thought that living in Hong Kong half my life I'd have come across that term. And with a Japanese wife I can assure you dear reader I don't have a racist bone in my body.
I would be (more than) happy to change my handle - do the powers-that-be on CC allow such modifications? I'd be quite alright with 'Benjikat's A C**t'.
Thanks everyone. Hope that's cleared things up and I hope to see you all at the next rally

Re: user named HermannGoering
The Asian slang thing is a joke, not a fact... the Goering moniker doesn't seem like that huge a deal unless its' user was actually carried away with the character and beliefs and constantly made rants to that effect. The HG player seems to be quite normal, relatively dignified and easily intelligent enough to discuss this topic in a totally rational way. Initiating this subject with no contact (PMs, games etc.) with that namesake's owner was not so rational.
Is it the original poster's intent to have all the names of modern wartime generals removed or just the most notorious ones?

Well I personally have never heard of the name that is in debate here. I do however find it insulting to be called pro-natzi. Perhaps you need to be slapped upside the head a few times for name calling. I find it offensive to be put into that type of category. I also fear that you are not being fair to CC or it's community. an apology might be needed from you.

Re: user named HermannGoering
It was nothing even close to a "vague slur", as Hermann Goering was a critical part of one of the most cruelest and detestible events in human history. Most people who have even finished high school will know who Goering was. I think that it was your use of the word "vague" that upset the person you quoted. To call someone like that "vague" is almost like calling the holocaust itself "vague". It was one of the most documented human atrocities in history.richardgarr wrote:Steppin Razor wrote:richardgarr wrote:I really see no offense here, all you have managed to do is to make the CC community aware of yet another vague slur, that potential ass's can use.
