Interesting to see how the telescope of time continues. When I was 17, the nearest thing to a PC we ever had was a calculator that worked out the 4 basic funtions and a % key...we spent many happy hours working out equations that would create words that one could read on the screen using the numbers, we were also in awe of the word processing machines just hitting the markets, amazed at how they could backspace and delete a letter (only the one mind you). The computer, in the company I worked for, did all the basic accounts (done by tickets being sent to the keying room by internal mail) was about the size of a decent sized living room, all info was input by a series of punch tape operators, it had to be kept in an air conditioned, air filtered environment, and we all scoffed and laughed at the seers who said within 30 years everyone would have home computers the size of a tray that would be hundreds of times more powerful than those computers in existence then...oh how we laughed. The accounts would churn out once a month on huge tabulated sheets, all with codes we then had to check and ensure they all balanced (I had to do bank reconciliations with over 10,000 entries every month, it was then I truly learnt the meaning of boredom).

Space invaders was just hitting the pubs, press button gaming machines rather than one armed bandits as we knew them, a brave new world was dawning..just wish I had bought shares in Apple or Microsoft back then.

I do remember the betamax, along with the 8 track, both far superior products than casette and VHS, but there you go, they died and we got left with what we had. I also remember pong..I had a paddle game given to me in '78...wow what a game, 2 paddles with large plastic knobs to move the bat up and down the side of the screen...black and white of course. We sat there for all of a couple of days until I put it down, never to pick it up again...I think I still have it somewhere in the loft gathering dust.

Interestingly, my Grandson started playing Space Invaders recently online, he thought he was so cool, and asked me if I could play it, chortling to his friends, ...I sat down, and with them offering gratuitous advice whenever I did anything (which I ignored) I got the top score ever....lol...my cool rating shot up with them. I am 32, will be 33 in May. My oldest son is 11, so I am old enough to mom to quite a few here...yikes.

I started CC in February 2007. I have only played the board game a few times.

We had word processors in my high school to learn to type on. I didn't use the internet until I was 21 - in college. I loved nintendo as a teen - super mario bros was my favorite. i still love that game. and tetris!!

Re the atari 2600, I was a texas 99/4A man myself...my Bro was an atari man...I was seriously jealous...

Wasn't it around the late 70s that Zork first hit the market..I seem to recall my Bro setting up the old phone, with great anxiety as it sat in its modem bed, the whistles and crackles coming down the line and the words appearing on the screen....(You are in a large room, exits N & E, there is a sword here)

I've got a 2.2Ghz Quad Core with 3 gigs of RAM, a 320GB SATA HDD, an overclocked GeForce 9600GT video card with with HDTV output and dual DVI and a 20 inch LCD monitor with 32 bit (it's 24 damnit! ) colour. My, how things have changed... You can buy more powerful computers than the one you talked about for 2 bucks (called PIC computers, just a small little chip). I'm glad I didn't have to grow up in that dark, scary world of yours...
