I think most of the cartoons are just a way of making fun of things. The real problem here is the fact that those muslims are easily butt-hurt. (Allthough, it's very likely that the riots you see on tv are just set up by a fundamentalist group to make it appear as if many people are angry. The fact they are able to burn swedish flags speaks for that, as it's almost impossible to buy one there and they're expensive if you do find one.)

Oh indeed. Both 'sides' are wrong. I'd chalk the Muslim reaction down to a number of things rather than just being easily 'butt-hurt', but still... The thing is, 'western' Christians don't go on the streets and burn effigies anyway. I wouldn't be overly surprised if someone started taking pot-shots at native Syrian Christians (or something similar) and similar protests happened. I think regional (or region of origin-al) development is a big factor.

Yeah I think you have a point. I think western society has just progressed to the point we can make fun of those things and not receive death-threats (or at least not a lot). Certainly if you published a cartoon making fun of Jesus here a hundred years ago it would face heavy protest and be censored. It's just with the advance of technology people from a culture where such things are unthinkable receive the information of a culture where it is accepted.

The way I look at it, if you cant have a laugh at yourself, you really need to get out more!

I mean lets face it, what about the Sex Pistols album way back in the 70's/80's with the queen defaced, ever week/day there are cartoons in the paper of western icons being ridiculed!

The queen (not that I am a royalist, anything but), the prime minister, god, arch bishops etc etc etc all get ridiculed without any come back or problem. They are all actual factual people. Prove to me there is a god up there HARD PROOF? I am sure if real people and their followers can accept the weekly jokes ..... well, u get my point!

Even the guy in Thailand who was jailed for defacing a picture of the king was pardoned by the king, and anybody knowing Thailand is aware thats is punishable by death! Even he accepted the punishment should fit the crime!

Get over yourselves, a joke/cartoon is EXACTLY THAT a joke or cartoon! Honestly next you will be saying The Simpsons are a real family!

I view it as any excuse to cause trouble.

It's wrong to provoke such reactions, as it is wrong to cause violence because of such drawings. But I am apt to agree it is by far worse to kill people and cause violence over cartoons drawn by obvious atheistic prick heads, then it is to draw images of The Prophet.

I get offended over derogatory cartoons that depict Jesus, but thanks to Christian philosophy, I tolerate it and forgive such imbiscilistic behaviour (is that a word?)

Anyway, just learn to respect others, even if they do not respect you. Jesus said,"...it is like piling hot coals upon their heads."

I had to deal with this for 3 years in a specialist Crime Squad set up for this very thing.

To be racist or a bigot, doesn't just cover RELIGION! It covers any group of people and THEIR BELIEFS who are likely to be offeneded or threatened by uneducated statements.

I am saying what you have stated is racist and abusive and is not acceptable in todays society!

That goes against the forum rules and he has offended my beliefs and any other non believer! We are a group within society and deserve equal protection against such racism and abuse?

Jock Bomb, you are obviously new here. The theists and atheists have long in-depth discussions in this forum. There is generally a fair degree of mutual respect mixed with a fair degree of general libel. We all have learned to take it in stride. I suggest you do the same. There are many of who very much enjoy the religious debates that occur, and I'm going to be super-pissed if the mods start with a 'no hacking on anybody with regard to religious viewpoints' enforcement. There is outright bigotry, which should certainly be avoided, but 'atheist prick-head' is really pretty minor. If you're going to hang out in the CC forums, I strongly suggest developing thicker skin.

Yeah, and I really, really, really hope that this isn't the start of Wicked jumping in whenever folks on here start jawing about religious beliefs. Many of our discussions become quite spirited, and most of us are capable of recognizing that differences of opinion are just that. I wouldn't really consider Athiesm a belief. Athiesm needs no faith hence no belief. I would consider it more of a stance.

Almost every Atheist ( at least hardcore) I know have been pricks. Some stand by their point politly and try not to offend other while other's just speak their mind.

Im just wordering how this thread got to bashing Athiest's.
