I've taken to... copious caffeine consumption which has been at least one factor in everyone in my office thinking I'm a REAL WEIRDO, chatting to Hecter on MSN, reading novels (which explains my frequent bumping of Book Talk), and, oh!, today I did my taxes.2dimes wrote:Have you made a paper mache volcino and filled it with mentos and diet coke yet?
Also, I take about 2.5 hr lunch breaks. I nap and watch Father Ted on Youtube mostly.

Today will mark 5 whole days where I haven't had a single shred of work. Well, yesterday my boss asked me what an acronym stood for and I told him. Maybe that counts as work. I've been playing a lot of speed games, so you can imagine Wednesday was very difficult for me.
But THEN, yesterday, my boss's boss offered me a promotion and raise! They've just been astonished with the quality of my work. They want me to know I'm appreciated, needed, and an important part of the agency.
Oh poor things. I will be so long gone before they know it.
In other work-related news, today I actually DUNKED a donut in coffee for the first time in my life. Didn't like it.

I imagine that was a waste of a segment of donut. That is a punishable offense where I come from.btownmeggy wrote:Today will mark 5 whole days where I haven't had a single shred of work. Three days ago I started my new job as a secretary on my former college (till old secretary returns from her sick leave).btownmeggy wrote:Today will mark 5 whole days where I haven't had a single shred of work. Meggy, at least you have some responsibilities. My whole work is to sit all day in the office and tell everyone that the secretary (real) will do that job when she returns (because her signature and her seal is what matters), take some mail (5 minutes), take some papers from place A to place B (10 minutes)... And the computer in the office is password protected (and guess what - only old secretary knows it).
On the bright side it's so boring that I read a lot (5-6 hours a day). And I can drink a lot of coffee (I had 7 or 8 cups of coffee today).

I'm a legal researcher. The work, when it exists, is so interesting and fun and I feel wonderfully accomplished after doing it. I am such an exuberant civil servant. But I'm usually just totally not needed.Guiscard wrote:What work are you meant to be doing?
I sit around. I take online drawing lessons. Like ignotus, I read novels and drink LOTS of coffee. I found a stash of about 50 Utne Readers from the mid-'90s, so I ponder the meaning of community and how we can prevent further deterioration of the Ozone. I obsessively check grad school admissions websites to see if anyone's heard back from NYU yet. I eat the secretary's candy.
