it's 11:30 on a Saturday night, and i'm sitting in front of my laptop, about to type out my 10 favourite bands. oh well. been out and about too much the last couple weeks, need a break.
The Stone Roses are great. i listen to their eponymous album at least once a month. just about every house party i've hosted over the years, Fool's Gold has been in the playlist. i've been listening to them for just about as long as i can remember. been listening to them since before i was 10, at least.
so, it'll be hard to pick just ten, and of all time, too.... so, i'm limiting this to just bands. and rock and roll. no hip hop or blues, or solo artists...
1. Smashing Pumpkins
2. Nirvana
3. Radiohead
4. Nine Inch Nails
5. Joy Division
6. Minutemen
7. Pedro the Lion
8. Pixies
9. Godspeed You! Black Emperor
10. tool
and below this, i'll leave the list i made to cull the top ten from (the first five i didn't have to think about) everything below i've spent a whole shit ton of time listening to, and has been huge to me in one way or another
Sonic Youth
Metallica
boysetsfire
Broken Social Scene
Muse
New Order
Orange 9mm
Death Cab for Cutie
Soundgarden
They Might Be Giants
Trans Am
Tristeza
The Notwist
The Arcade Fire
Depeche Mode
The Beatles
Bloc Party
!!!
Interpol
Rage Against the Machine
Top ten bands of all time

I'm bored, so here's a list off the top of my head -
1. The Who. I'm kinda confused why I'm not seeing the Who on anybody's list. The reason I've got right now is that you are all incompetent.
2. Bob Marley and the Wailers. Too chill not to love.
3. Ray Charles. Not really a band, but soul.
4. Toots and the Maytals. Yeah, this is probably too high, but I'm not thinking very well at the moment.
5. The Beatles. Innovators.
6. Marvin Gaye.
And the list goes on, but I'm not quite bored enough to keep on.

Scorpions? (I ask, hoping for no-burn)

Why would you ask that? They were quite a good band, and from Germany nonetheless.Jenos Ridan wrote:Drat, I knew I was missing one.........spurgistan wrote: The Who. I'm kinda confused why I'm not seeing the Who on anybody's list. The reason I've got right now is that you are all incompetent.
