I.D. Required to Vote?

I know, it's a no brainer but what the heck.

Apparently for some people putting an "X" in a box is just too much work.
If you view the post, why not Vote?

Yes yes and more yes. That'll help prevent people picking up illegal aliens, supplying them with a few names, and then collecting free, undeserved votes for their candidates.

And it might even curb the registration of DEAD people at the polls. (you see why I loath liberals?)

It still won't help Diebold from mysteriously losing the votes of those who did show their ID.

The incident I'm refering to was a female Democrat got caught tring to register the names of dead people to vote. I'm pretty sure she didn't intend those votes to go to Bush.

Doesn't change the fact that a lot of dead votes went to Bush as well.

Both sides are equally corrupt, it's all in your POV.

well, apart form the fact that most poor people don't ahve IDs, since they have no car, no credit cards, and no passport (which are the main ID's people use...) it's prety unnecessary, how often are people going to sign up dead people? the votes are corrupted enough *cough* florida *cough*

Essentially, this is back by REPUBLICANS becasue as always they're pro-middle and upper class and don't want people who want socialized medicine so they don't die taking a few dollars away from wealthy businessowners so they can get their second house!

I believe you have to have some form of I.D. to receive government assistance, so that eliminates the "Poor" people argument. There seems to be alot of people who just throw there hands in the air and say "Oh well, what can i do about it" :( "everybody's corrupt" Well i don't believe that, and the idea of an illegal immigrant or "dead" people voting for ANY candidate and essentially cancelling out MY VOTE, Really pisses me off!

And if you care about this Country and believe in its core ideals of Honesty, Hard Work, Individuality and Freedom for all then it should PISS YOU OFF Too!!!!!

Your last paragraph shows.... Nevermind, it would be a waste of time.

Well in NY they issue non-drivers ID's. So that isn't the case here. You should have to be identified to be able to vote otherwise you open the door to massive amounts of fraud.

An id costs 5 bucks at the dmv...and everyone has a ss card or a birth certificate. You have to have an ID to get a job.

This situation would require a photo id, which not quite as many people have.

Getting one from the DMV isn't always possible for people, sicne they might not have cars, and they might not even live by a DMV.

I assume since Hawaii's a lot smaller than most states and ID's are required for foodstamps it would be a lot easier to get a photo-ID, again, not all states have readily accessible photo IDs.

MOst of the people affected by this have low - level jobs, ones that may or may not be on the books, meaning they probably dont' require photo IDs.

Most of you are wealthy enoguh to afford computers and other amenities, but there is a huge group of people in the UNited States who can't, and if they were educated about this stuff and empowered they would most defiantely give greater incentive to change the status quo and start distributing wealth more evenly (no i'm not a communist, i jsut dont' think we shoudl get rid of health care for the poor when we give a lot of incentives and subsidies to lare corporations)

cow... you are a liberal. The remedy for such a condition as that is 4 hours of Rush Limbaugh followed by 2 hours of FOXNEWS. If the symtoms persist consult your doctor. There may be withdrawl symptoms like the urge to hug a tree, throwing paint on fur coats and a compelling desire to go have meaningless sex so you can kill a human being via abortion. If these symptoms do not pass move to France.

I don't know about other states, but in FL and GA you can get a photo ID at Walgreens for God's sake. Hell, you can get a basic, non-DMV ID at most city halls if you know where to go.

I call bullshit. My little sister has never had a car (she's 25), and honey, we are far from rich, but she's never had trouble getting her non-driver license from the DMV even though it's in another city.

And as far as low-level jobs goes, let me tell you something....

Two years ago (I'm 28) I had a job as a waitress. It paid $2.13 an hour plus tips. Sometimes I'd work a twelve hour shift and barely make $40 for the day. I had an apartment with my kids in the crappiest complex in town and it was still $625 a month plus utilities. I had an '88 toyota van that I bought for $475, my insurance was $60 a month. If I couldn't afford gas, I left an hour and a half early so I could walk the three miles to work. I had no TV. I had no iron (which they kept threatening to fire me over at work). I spent MAYBE $40 a week on groceries, but by God I NEVER had a problem getting an ID. Which most employers DO reqire....even off the books (and I know this for a fact, as I've held a fair share of those kind of jobs, too).

It's all about priorities. If you have the gumption to get to the polls in November, you'll find a way to get your photo ID. The DMV is where you have to register to vote in the first place, kill two birds with one stone.

I call bs at that one.. you dont know how fucking hard it was for me to get my social security card(i lost it) to get a job without a photo id.. I dont drive so I couldnt use that... and in our government's bureaucracy you can only use a form of picture Id given to you by the state. Even if its the states school system.. I could have signed up for a non drivers id that costs alot of money and takes 3 weeks to get approved for..

I ended up having to wait a week for them to contact the school and validate it.

States that are thinking about trying this out say they will distribute Photo IDs to people st their homes. Oh, and by the way, If youre too poor to go to the DMV and get a non driver ID (their free in Oregon) then how are you going to get to the polls to vote?

I just got a new social security card (mine was so old you couldn't read the numbers anymore) I printed to form at work, went to the SS office and took a number. Two hours later I had my reciept and a week later I had my card. It's free and it wasn't hard. Yes, it took me six months to get a new diver's license after my first one broke in half, but that was my apartment complex's fault (they kept returning my mail). My six year driver's license was $56....and while I was there I registered to vote.
