There are definitly enough blacks willing to vote for Obama, keep in mind not everybody who can vote does.suggs wrote:If Hilary wins, the Democrat are certain to win the Presidency because of the womens vote.

Why does Obamma get all the attention?

I detest Hilary, there's just something about her that makes me worry, but I can't seem to place my finger on it.suggs wrote:If Hilary wins, the Democrat are certain to win the Presidency because of the womens vote.

I do think that Obama will get the nomination simply because women are voting for him in great numbers but Blacks aren't doing the same for Hilary.

What? China's economy is stagnant, it's facing all kinds of domestic problems in it's rural areas and its citizens work in shitty sweatshops for 2$ a month. It's only doing so good because of how large it is; if all of Africa joined together, you'd call it a rising power to, but it would still be a conglomeration of shitty countries that throw tantrums and shitstorms with no ability to do anything.
Back on topic, Obama is only doing good because of racist African Americans. In all his 6,650 interviews, he has never said anything coherent or meaningful about what he plans to do if elected. Hell of a country you've got there Americans, where someone can become your president just because he's black. You people make me sick.
Obama didn't rise to the status he has now because of the black vote. Do you seriously think that he won Iowa because of the overwhelming black majority there??? Obama has had to work hard to win black votes in America because many black Americans didn't really see him as identifying with them...hell, he went to Harvard and is a big-shot lawyer. It wasn't until his wife started directly targeting black Americans in her stump speeches that his numbers in the polls of black voters started to turn around. Obama never had a lock on the black voters. And to suggest that women vote for billary because (s)he's a (wo)man or that black people are all voting for Obama just because he's black shows a pretty small amount of respect for women or black people, I think. Like women and black people can't think for themselves and evaluate the politics of the candidates! It's certain that the only informed voters are definitely white males, after all, right?
Obama is doing well in the primary because he is a powerful speaker and he's galvanized people. I know all the 'movement' talk is rather hackneyed, but he and his supporters are simply much better at getting voters excited about their cause than hillary and her camp are. And he doesn't have the crazy zealot feel that Edwards did before he dropped out.

I don't totally agree where you take your views, but at least you understand how it feels for those us to lose Bill Richardson out of this race. I already voted for Obama because I really don't like the way Hillary acts towards anyone opposing her. Her husband has leveled cheap shots at Sen. Obama, but Obama has taken it with class and risen above their level in my opinion.btownmeggy wrote:If you've paid incredibly close attention to every last one of my posts over the last year or so, you know I'm a long-time Bill Richardson supporter. Richardson is a hardcore technocrat, with flair. I love him. And he's no longer running for President, so I've been posed with a quite a dilemma. With U.S. politics as they currently stand, I would only ever vote Democrat. Period. People who think that is confining and short-sighted--well, I won't say they're stoopid, but they don't have very nuanced understandings of U.S. American politics.
So, I'm left with the question, "Obama" or "Hillary"?
They are very similar on nearly all issues of import to me. I favor Hillary's health care model, but not incredibly so, since I think they're both in folly. If you want universal health coverage, single-payer health care is the only way to go. Ultimately, in my internal debate over Hillary and Obama, with their nearly all-encompassing policy similarities, it will come down to political style. Obama has a much, much more attractive political style. I'm not a Hillary-hater, BY ANY MEANS, but I am totally willing to admit that she's not incredibly likeable. Secondarily, I think there certainly is something to say for an opposition to the "oligarchy" that Hillary may represent. It reflects badly on the U.S., and as a hegemon in crisis, the U.S. needs to be very concerned about its image. With that in mind, I'm willing to bring race into the picture. A black President would reflect very well on the U.S., both in terms of domestic and international politics.
So, who will I vote for on March 4th? Barack Obama.

Wow, this is all so wrong. Black people aren't voting for him, because he's playing the white mans game and is just another uncle Tom to them. It's the pussy white liberals, who cry over slavery and hand out welfare checks like candy. And no, Obama isn't a powerful speaker, he simply has that whole 'whoa I'm chill and smoke weed' vibe (which the weak minded would mistake for charisma). He never gives any meaningful explanations for what and how he's going to do things if he's elected.

Well, blacks ARE voting for him. Overwhelmingly. So are the white liberals who... hate slavery?

It's typical white liberal masochistic self-flagellation. I honestly don't see any reason why anyone would want to vote Obama based on concrete policy.

Snorri, it grieves me to disagree with you.
And it grieves me that i am now so far up my own arse that i use the word "grieve". GET ON WITH IT!
Anyway, I have no evidence to support this claim, but its seems intuitive that a great many blacks (not all, of course) will support Obama, because he is black.
And fair play to them-of course he won't just govern as a black man, he will govern as an American Liberal/Centrist, but if i was black i would be tempted to vote for him as he might well speak to more of my issues (positve discrimination etc)
Still, what do I know?

Well that's no suprise.Napoleon Ier wrote:I honestly don't see any reason why anyone would want to vote Obama based on concrete policy.
What you don't understand however, is that many people do see a reason. Obama is a very gifted speaker, there is no doubt about that. He can make people feel good and inspired. He's a demagogue.
The media is making his blackness into a big deal, but they make it out like people are not agreeing with his message. They are. Fifty percent of the USA voted democrat in the last election. That means fifty percent of america voted for fucking John Kerry! To say that all the support for Obama is merely because he's black is just fucking stupid.
I've taken an internet test to see who agreed with me on the most positions, and guess what? It was Obama! I bet the test had accounted for me wanting to be pc....

If Obama is having the success he's having purely because he's black, then the question posed at the beginning of the thread surely applies, right? For anyone who says he's getting the support he's getting because he's black, then why haven't Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or any of the other black candidates enjoyed such success?
The answer is that Obama's success is NOT just because he's black. The guy is a charismatic leader. He may enjoy some boost from the fact that he's black, yeah, I agree with that, but his status in this election is not purely because he's black.
