Was never a fan of Metallica and don't know enough about them to comment really.. but they tried (and succesfully) tried to shut down Napster. Fucking wankersmuy_thaiguy wrote:mybike, radio, do you guys, by any chance, feel the same about Metallica?

Megadeth are one of my top 5 of all time for sure. Rust in Peace is one of my top 3 fav albums of all time.Jenos Ridan wrote: 5 ) Megadeath sucks ass- Posted for Paradice*
Good call lord_pwnage with Ayreon. Human Equation is a masterpiece. I also love Steely Dan, they're up in the top 5 also. But Opeth is the Best Band of All Time.

We DO need to clear something up. Is this a thread about 1) the top 10 BEST bands of all time, or 2) the top 10 favourite bands of all posters? If it's 2, then no one should comment on anyone's opinion. Or as Darvlay said, enjoying things is a very subjective issue. If not THE most subjective of all things human.suggs wrote:We need to clear something up. For starters this thread is top ten bands NOT top ten Rock bands, so pop bands are cool.
More importantly, yes the Beatles are overrated, in the same way that water is overrated-nope, water cant cure cancer but its still the best thing ever to happen to the human race.
My point: the Beatles have been so hyped so much that inevitably a few of their tracks dont stand up to modern day scrutiny.
But they are certainly the most important band of all time (cultural impact, impact on songwriters, EVERY other band that has recorded) and they HAVE to be included in any sane persons top ten.
Which is why I wish I hadnt forgotten to put them in my list![]()

If it's 1, how on earth can you decide that? By which factors can anyone decide whether a band is 'good', or 'better' than another one? Is influence the most important? No doubt the Beatles are #1 then (even though some find them boring, but that would bring us back to option nr 2). Originality? There's a huge amount of music created everywhere around the world, no one can tell who's least influenced, since everyone is influenced in some way. Popularity? Then we're back to option 2 again...
IMO, no band (or artist) is to be called better than another one. Everyone likes the music they like (I'm a fan of option 2, if that wasn't clear already
And btw:
- Elvis started in the fifties (not before them),
- Frank Zappa isn't a band but lead one: The Mothers of Invention,
- calling the Beatles an embarrasment is stupid,
- calling everything that's on the radio crap is pretty cheap (what radio do you listen to
- changing your music style by becoming popular doesn't equal 'selling out',
- and though Dave Mustaine tries hard to be bigger than and different from Metallica, their music IS quite alike.
But that's just what I think

Nice, I own that album, along with Cryptic Writtings, Youthanasia, Greatest Hits, United Abominations and Countdown to Extinction.RjBeals wrote: Megadeth are one of my top 5 of all time for sure. Rust in Peace is one of my top 3 fav albums of all time.
Other bands include AC/DC, Motley Crue (yes, a "G.ay L.A. M.etal Band according to Dave, but I still like'um), Aerosmith, Zeppelin, Stones, Sabboth, Maiden, Godsmack and Linkin' Park.

Here's my list (as well as a few words about some the bands I have on here):
1) Pink Floyd- A lot of people say The Beatles is the best but I think Pink Floyd had better albums than the Beatles. Strawberry Fields Forever can top any Floyd song but Dark Side of The Moon whoops Revolver 10 ten times over.
2) Jimi Hendrix- Hendrix was only recording for three years, and before those years were over he had already made songs like Voodoo Child, Machine Gun, and All Along The Watchtower. The Beatles, after three years of recording, had just barely moved on past teenybopper music.
3) The Beatles-
4) Frank Zappa- His music isn't always accessible but he's probably the most original artist who ever lived (along with Captain Beefheart). Plus he's a fucking genius.
5) Bob Dylan
6) Captain Beefheart- Take it from Matt Groening, Captain Beefheart is one of the greatest artists ever.
7) Elton John- I think you'd have to be a homophobe to not like his music.
8 Public Enemy
9) The Doors- Even though I think they're a bit overrated.
10) Talking Heads- Like most great bands that aren't from the 60's or 70's, Talking Heads is a really underrated band.
