One thing I noticed and that is;
- you forgot the letter "t" in Liechtenstein.

Thanks MarVal. It's now on the 'To Do' list!

Edit: Now you mention it, Oaktown said something about needing a T - I assumed he mean on the abbreviated bit - but he probably meant the same place you just pointed out!

So here a few points:

1. Borders are inconsistant and riggid. A think a redraw may be needed here.

2. Continent colors are really good and distinctive. However i would like to see a very light texture applied so they sit a little nicer on the map.

Thats a few semi large points. Ill leave you with those for now :)

Update Number 9

Changes:
-All of Turkey is back on the map, and I've taken out the 'European' bit of the name from Turkey and Russia. I think this brings more clarity to the Transcontinental group, which I want to keep how it is. (The grey bit next to Russia is Kazakhstan, and not Russia)
-Corrected spelling of Liechtenstein
-Redrew the border of Croatia so that it borders Montenegro on the coastal side
-Moved the label for the River Danube, and touched-it-up a bit in Hungary
-Added a texture to the land as Gimil suggested, but I really don't like it.

-I've played around with the continent groupings quite a bit, and have added Benelux added in as another small continent. I wanted to break Italy from the Meditteranean Islands, so have included it in with Central Europe. This was suggested by someone (tim02 possibly?) way back somewhere where I can't find it. This rearrangement makes Central Europe slightly more defendable, as well as potentially clarifying/resolving the continent names for West, Central, and Eastern Europe.

Image

Things on the TO DO list:
-The ocean route across the Black Sea needs to be removed, and I need to have a think about how the Med Islands are joined together.
-I'm going to swap the colours of the Med Islands and the Balkans, as I think the colours look slightl;y unbalanced, and I liked how my 1st draft looked.
-There's plenty of other things that probably need tweaking, but its getting late, and I can't think of anything else right now...

The texture is a good step forward, it jsut needs to be a good bit more subtle i think :)

also would like feedback on redrawing the border.

looking good i preferred European turkey but reading the last few pages the majority have spoken.

Currently Asian Russia is grey if you are going transcontinental that should be brown as well

i agree with you guys on this one it's definitely part of the Balkans
In most of the English-speaking, western world, the countries commonly included in the Balkan region are:

* Albania
* Bosnia and Herzegovina
* Bulgaria
* Croatia
* Montenegro
* Greece
* Republic of Macedonia
* Serbia
* Turkey, but only the European section of it (traditionally called Rumelia or Eastern Thrace)

Some other countries are sometimes included in the list as well:

* Moldova
* Romania
* Slovenia

My God! The grouping of the countries in the last version is so bad it would totally put me off from playing this map.

How can Italy ever be part of Central Europe? It makes no sense at all and shows a total lack of knowledge of the European continent. I will never accept such a thing. Yeah right...the Vatican a Central European country. It makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time!

Personally I also think you should be working on the small map first as you will never manage to pull such a map for the small version. There are way too many countries in there and it will be too crammed. The micro states are a major problem.

Sorry if I am sounding harsh but I have already stated that any new Europe map must focus on accuracy, something which I don't see here. Being a European such a thing is very important for me. I am not going to state my opinion on how the groupings should be as I have already done this before.

As gimil said the texture is definatly a step forward, but it needs to be a bit more subtle. I still dislike the small Caucaus cotinent, baltics continent and the new benelux continent because i player could easily start with either and it would then be very difficult for his opponent to win. I also dislike the citys in italy becasue if you were to get SM and VC and Italy you would have 7 armies in the second turn(after fortification) on a country in which you can break 3 continents. Will Luxembourg and Liechtenstein be territorys with army, becasue on the small map it will be very diffficult to see them let alone have armys on them as well as there names. Italy should be put back in Medittarian IMO, it will make central eeurope small but i think it wll be good small becasue it has 7 conutries surronding it and the plus 4 would merit holding it.
Guys I am intentionally lurking. Discuss; Play mafia, it is good.

I'm interested in seeing how the army coordinates are going to work on this map...that may be something to start looking into, because there is always a chance that changes, perhaps drastic, may be needed.

I was thinking about this too. The city states or whatever in Italy are gonna be a problem.

Just a quick update... I took off the army circles on an earlier version as I thought they didn't do a lot to help clarity of the map. Since then I've been playing around, and have the following updates... v1 with army shadows, and v2 with numbers on top of the shadows.
I've also toned the texture down a bit, so it doesn't look so bad.

I'm too tired right now to enter into another arguement about continent groupings - I'm finding it really hard to find a balance between geographical accuracy and good gameplay. I'll post my thoughts and reasoning after the weekend.
Anyway, here are the maps:

Am I the only one who REALLY doesn't see the point of Georgia being connected to Turkey by both land and sea?

The bottom part of Jutland in Denmark is looking a bit funny as the bulky part is in fact an island. Not that it's important.

And if you want to keep Kaliningrad as a coutnry in itself you should really consider adding it to the Baltics. Otherwise the trancont. looks very difficult to hold.

And you should probably put Italy in the med. group like you had previously. And then put Crete with Greece in the Balkans and put Cyprus as transcontinental, which it is really. Oh, and connect it to Turkey obviously, it makes no sense that it's not.
