I think it would look better if you could increase the transparency on the borders.
Also you need to look at the circles tutorial, I'll see if I can find it and post it.
You need to get gimp and learn how to use the layers if you haven't done so to do these changes much more easily.

ive done that and it doesnt look pretty.edbeard wrote:well I dunno.
I think it was Andy who said earlier that we don't want a map that's a picture with stuff drawn on top of it. I tend to agree.
I'd like to see the planet drawn so you can give it depth and texture that meshes well with the other graphics that you do for gameplay purposes.

i know the following comments may seem harsh but you seem eager to produce a map. in order to achieve that you must create a good looking image as well as a good gameplay. i haven't looked at the gameplay because honestly the image sucks. making some lines thinner and stuff like that will not improve it. it will only waste your time.
putting a poorly cut mars image on a black background and adding a few borders does not make a map. if it did we'd probably have a trillion maps available and we'd be on landgrab.
so first of all learn to properly blend an image. look at the rim of mars. it's horribly pixelated.
the black space. well, it's too bland and boring. add stars add space dust add some novas or something.
the arrows are awful. make them flowy make them diagonal. remove the redundant ones. for example there are 2 arrows from kasei to tempe. why?
army circles. come on, plain white? they don't fit, they aren't nice.
to be honest my best advice is to put the map on hold for the moment. get yourself photoshop and then learn to use it. after you learn it then come back and do it properly.

ok first i know that i will have to put things in the background and i know i will have to do things with the circles those i already know i have to do.
the Double arrows mean that they can attack each other and not only one direction. i will more than likely make that an arrow that will go both ways.
i have tried to get rid of the pixels around mars, but it hasnt worked for some reason.
I am using gimp. if you must say i have to use photoshop, I have photoshop seven.
But i will work on the arrows and figure out a background that isnt obstructive, as well as the pixelated mars.

the space is shifted. it's like you pasted the same image twice and moved 1 3 px up.
make it nice and crisp cause it's really hurting the eyes.
as for the xml don't worry about it. it will be needed when you reach final forge.

Well i decided because there are really no mountains or any large geographical locations other than craters, i would make the grey line impassable and you can only attack through the one and two waysoaktown wrote:are there geographic/geological reasons for the one way attacks and the unpassable borders, or are they arbitrary? Because it would certainly make for a more interesting game if there was reason behind the gameplay features.

Um, that's not at all true. There's Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in the solar system, along with a scattering of other large volcanoes. There's also the Valles Marineris (not sure I spelled that properly, but whatever), which you have as just a territory name but is in fact a semi-equatorial canyon system that is also the largest of its kind in the solar system.a-person1192 wrote:Well i decided because there are really no mountains or any large geographical locations other than craters, i would make the grey line impassable and you can only attack through the one and two ways
That's just off the top of my head. Methinks you need to take a closer look at martian geography.
