Hacking vs. Cracking / this needs to end

many forum goers are quite aware of my disdain for the commonplace accusation of, "perhaps someone hacked his account and is trying to ruin his score" or "(insert player name here) would NEVER do that, his/her account must have been hacked!!!" E-NOUGH!!! accounts are not being HACKED ON CC!!! as evidenced in a recent C&A thread, this false belief just seems to be the norm on this site. so, i have taken it upon myself to educate the masses with this post. below is the original post/accusation of the hacking of a users account to attack his own team members in doubles games, and my response. i hope you all learn something:

maybe not "hacked" like from the outside but a stranger. maybe the lower form of hacking, like a little brother or pissed off ex has rocko's password saved in their shared computer and are logging in as rocko to mess with him. that is possible.

i am sorry. it is time to stop this ignorance. there is no such thing as a "lower level of hacking." there isn't even such a thing as "hacking a password." here is the definition of hacking:

Computer hacking refers to the practice of modifying or altering computer software and hardware to accomplish a goal that is considered to be outside of the creator's original objective. Those individuals who engage in computer hacking activities are typically referred to as “hackers.”

now, what you are all going on about is called PASSWORD CRACKING. it is not a hack, it is a crack. so, kind of like CRACK IS WHACK, think CRACK ISN'T HACK. here is a short explanation:

Password cracking refers to various measures used to discover computer passwords. This is usually accomplished by recovering passwords from data stored in, or transported from, a computer system. Password cracking is done by either repeatedly guessing the password, usually through a computer algorithm in which the computer tries numerous combinations until the password is successfully discovered.

Password cracking can be done for several reasons, but the most malicious reason is in order to gain unauthorized access to a computer without the computer owner’s awareness. This results in cybercrime such as stealing passwords for the purpose of accessing banking information.

Other, nonmalicious, reasons for password cracking occur when someone has misplaced or forgotten a password. Another example of nonmalicious password cracking may take place if a system administrator is conducting tests on password strength as a form of security so that hackers cannot easily access protected systems.

now, can we all go on with our lives and stop using the "his account was hacked" and/or "his password was hacked"? it is CRACKED or CRACKING. please stop. just stop. you all sound so incredibly ignorant thinking a HACKER would spend time to HACK into a users account on this site... "oh boy, i'm going to show this site the ol' what for!!"... sigh...

My theory is that he is Owenshooter in his forum posting persona. He cleverly started that persona many years before buying the site, to help throw off those who might search for a connection. Notice Owenshooter has the word shooter imbeded in the name. Shooter which gets us to the NRA (National Rifle Association) connection that always alerts one that a conspiracy theory has some validity.

Now in examining the name Big Wham. Big, could be an electronic form of truck balls, a compensation for a genetic lack. And Wham, maybe Fruity Pebbles for breakfast. Again with all the benefit of my years of not practicing pseudo-Freudian examination. He could, possibly have some severe internal conflict.

I agree, cracking isn't hacking, but the problem goes deeper than that. The absolute carelessness with which people will share their passwords with complete strangers on here is shocking. One doesn't need to hack, crack, or smack anything. One just has to sit around and random strangers will PM you their passwords and ask you to sit turns for them.

you, on the other hand, have created 7 or more threads on the word "GAY", despite the issue being resolved. last week you went off tangent in a C&A thread to the degree that it was locked and portions moved to the GD, where it has died the usual CircumSymmetry death, because nobody cares. you have yet to show me MULTIPLE THREADS on this same topic. this is a pressing matter which needs to be addressed and resolved.

Being a general pain in the ass, for the players and the mods

She has been logging onto accounts within LoW by using passwords BENJI stored in his saved folder. The accounts she has logged into are lt.pie, waseemalim, and Velvecarrots. These accounts have been deactivated, along with BENJIKAT IS DEAD, but we do not know how many passwords were stored in the Saved Folder, and whether they were written down for later shennanigans. She has also been dragging our names through the mud in the forums, starting massive numbers of games for points dumping, and taking turns involving teammate killing and general disarray. It would be appreciated if this account was dealt with to at least send the message that this sort of behaviour is not tolerated. In the long run, this will lead to less work that the mods have to do as, at the moment, it is a trainwreck.

this was the most prominent case of password abuse in CC history (outside of Blitzaholic... *cough*... miss that dude, i really do...)... anyway, this is a classic example of CRACKING vs. HACKING. the passwords were stored and a neglected wife took it upon herself to get rid of "the other woman" in the relationship. this may be really hard for people newer to the site to believe... however, that is how big and involved this community once was (and is trying to become again)... it made an enraged wife misappropriate passwords and wreck multiple accounts and even went so far as to take it to the forums...
