Giving away information to opponent

Hi,

I just joined a fog-trench polygame. When I joined it was my move so I made my move.

I later got a chat from my opponent where the opponent asked me if I would mind to give information about which area I took and what that area could see prior to it's elimination. I said: "I do mind" . .

feels like a douche thing to do. . .but hey, it's war! and these are military secrets, right?

what would you have done?

Game 16290249

As Don has explained, the "12hr fog rule" is a common thing among experienced players but is not anything official. It originates from clan wars whereby clans would often agree a 12hr time slot before taking the first turn in fog games so that the team playing second can view the board as it would have been before being attacked.

It's more a courtesy than anything else, though many players respect it in all games.

To who is addressed this "suck it up, cupcake", the OP ? Because I really don't see why you're saying that to him here. He isn't complaining about anything, so I don't see how he could "suck it up". He is merely asking information about smthg he apparently never encountered before.
To which you answer "not against the rules. not in the rules." is perfectly correct btw.

I never mention it, unless it's a clanwar or the person himself asks me to adhere to the 12h fog rule. Seems like the best way to avoid any animosity(bad ratings) at the start of the game. It really isn't worth bickering about. Any decent player can win games despite this courtesy-rule, so it's hardly a tragedy.

the courtesy rule is bullshit clan cry-baby garbage. another thing that is WRONG with what clans have become. if you can't figure out what has happened after the first turn, cry me a river, seriously. it is not a strategy, it is someone eager to get a game going...-Jésus noir

Not sure what the big deal is about the exchange of intel to other players? Is there RULES against such play? If not, why care? Players will use whatever advantage to win and that's considered what? Bad sportsmanship?

War games are that, war.

All fair in LOVE and WAR. Unless written in the Geneva Convention.

I agree with both of you. I have had people get pissed (only a couple) that i moved before 12 hours in a 1v1 game. Yea, im not waiting 12 hours to start arms race lol.

Fog war is only really important (to me) in trips/quads games where elimination is key so you want to have that first snap to have as much vision on your opponents as possible

Isn't that part of the strategy that some players use? I played a couple of games where it seems that, they were missing turns on purpose for extra army deployments. It's legal, I guess, but it delays the game and I'm sure frustrates other players.

You do not get extra deployment when you miss a turn. You get the deployment of your turn plus a deployment for the miss turn, which is either same or less that you would have received if you had played the turn you miss.
They probably miss turns because of real life issue, or maybe just because they forgot to log in to CC.
