Secret diplomacy. :-( [noted]

Postby scottp on Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:25 pm

Hello. I don't want to sound like a whiner, nor do I feel this rises to the level of accusing someone in the "Cheating and Abuse" forum.

However, I would appreciate if someone would please review Game 2668258. I was in a commanding lead, and NickJP and grandgnu entered into an agreement in secret. blue (grandgnu) did announce the pact at 2008-06-21 04:35:15 in chat, before playing his turn. However, it was a "done deal" at that point, and had I seen the negotiation process, I could perhaps have prepared/reacted - either by making competing offers, seeking a pact with green, or just playing more defensively.

Their actions are clearly not in keeping with the Rule 2, but what is done about such cases? Can/should the game be voided? I have not encountered this before, so I don't know what is customary here. If the answer is "suck it up" that's fine.

thanks

thanks Andy. Sorry for putting it in the wrong place.

I hesitated to put it here because of the "put name of accused in Subject". I really don't want to label anyone as a cheater. I'm not accusing anyone of cheating, so much as accidentally using improper methods of diplomacy. They probably didn't realize it was wrong.

Completed the e-ticket

grandgnu and NickJP Secret alliance:

The accused are suspected of :

  • Conducting Secret Diplomacy

Game number(s):

Comments:
Accused have carried negotiations outside the game Chat. Even though they have announced the 'ceasefire' in the Game Chat... negotiations have been conducted outside the game.:
2008-06-20 23:35:15 - grandgnu: NickJP and I have agreed to a ceasefire to combat the growing threat of yellow. Per game rules, wanted to make you aware so there are no secrets
Conditions of 'ceasefire' announced 2 days later:
2008-06-22 03:49:15 - grandgnu: I won't turn on NickJP, I agreed to back him against you and not take South or Hill Country, as those are for him. I am a man of my word and will continue the fight against yellow

2008-06-22 11:57:26 - grandgnu: In keeping with our arrangement, I will of course see yellow defeated in 3rd, Nick will get at least 2nd. But of course, I must fortify my position in anticipation of our unavoidable conflict for 1st. You fought really well and were a great partner Nick

grandgnu is apparently confused about the Rules of the game, however that is no excuse for conducting secret negotiations...

This is grandgnu and NickJP first game together. This is really about them not proposing the truce through the game chat, thus makes it suspicious as to how long did they already have the truce before they announced it. Since you already clarified this at the game, it is expected from them that they will not do this again. This report is noted.
