2014-08-18 01:16:23 - hayesez: We also have demands. Louisiana. That hurt. we didn't even have a region bordering that one to start. The early +3 was a killer.
2014-08-18 01:18:01 - hayesez: Kentucky. I would argue that it is the most important region in the game. If you get the Somerset drop, you can get it in one turn (trench) and only have to hold 2 entry points as the others are capitals.
2014-08-18 01:23:18 - hayesez: Plus, wiht Kentucky, you get Bourbon. And we all know what a lethal combination bourbon and war can be. Kentucky is key!
2014-08-18 02:12:30 - random21: Yes.
2014-08-18 02:13:51 - random21: But reasonably, somerset is not as important or Kentucky as you may be thinking. 1) to take the bonus in one turn assume you are hitting neutral and 1 friendly? which means a fort must be made
2014-08-18 02:14:37 - random21: also, no enemies on borders? how do you take a neut 5 in KY if roanoke is occupied by opponent? I agree if you were given Somerset, but still, 10 v 3, 3, 5 ?
2014-08-18 02:15:21 - random21: the bonus can be worked for, over first 3 turns for sure though. in which case dayton becomes quite powerful. and the surroudning flat lands of KY OH
2014-08-18 02:16:31 - random21: If you can secure dayton, then you control OH and KY. either they cant hold OH, or you can break KY with dayton OH.
2014-08-18 02:17:51 - random21: and yes, the drop is always important. red sacrificed territory in lousiana to blue, which control 2/4 territories. none of which was visible. while i said +3 and +4 were worth, sometimes +2 can be worth it when convenient
2014-08-18 02:18:49 - random21: in 1 v 1, i once had worcester, 1, 4 on drop, and took CT right away, how could i not? 1 worcester, 1 on 1, 5 on 4, take CT and war wick. nice start
2014-08-18 02:20:27 - random21: and concerning OH, and KY. only 2 players can hold either. while 2 other players could help clear surrounding regions... but lets say from outset, we both decide to put up fight in KY, and OH, and maybe PA depending, - if both sides are deadlocked in not
2014-08-18 02:20:55 - random21: letting KY OH PA fall, then team who is best able to secure other bonuses while holding the fight... probably wins
2014-08-18 02:22:37 - random21: any way you look at it, this map is a battle. lots of times MT, OR NV MS AL get a lot of side action
2014-08-18 02:25:42 - random21: playing my first 1 v 1 where OK i am going for the bonus in first 2 turns. given boise lawton and hugo on drop, wichita amarillo and tulsa all friendlies,
2014-08-18 02:26:32 - random21: clearing lawton takes wichita falls, and okla, get tulsa fort, and boom
2014-08-18 03:06:22 - hayesez: I absolutely agree with your thoughts on Kentucky. For the record, I was NOT trying to insinuate that we are struggling in this map because of a bad drop. We have only played this map with "manual" deploy, and it was clear that you all outplayed us.
2014-08-18 03:07:53 - hayesez: My point with Kentrucky, is that it is the first place I look when seeing the starting positions in this map. Clearly, you need friendlies (or the help of play order) on Dayton/Roanoke to control it..
2014-08-18 03:09:24 - hayesez: but it is a very powerful start. The second place I look is DC/Virginia. DC counts as a capital for the capital/hwy bonus, so if your team gets BAltimore to start and a friendly on Virginia Beach, that is a nice early bonus opportunity.
2014-08-18 03:23:38 - random21: i didnt read it as you saying you were given bad drop. alls good. yes, i remember that manual deploy, i think we had a missed turn. but in end i think between two strategies you guys had better. we had two differing strats dropping regions vs bonus?
2014-08-18 03:26:13 - hayesez: I also like the potential with the Kansas/MIssouri combination. Dropped Wichita and either St.Louis or KC and you can hold both states with only one non-capital entry point.
2014-08-18 03:26:42 - random21: but i cant argue with it being a powerful start. it is. like i was saying, also look at places like AL, jackson, nashville, atlanta and tallahasee lock you in
2014-08-18 03:27:08 - hayesez: Yes we did...that is right. We went for bonus and you went for regions. That was the first (and only) time someone has tried that. You know, I'm not really sure which of those is better either.
2014-08-18 03:27:47 - random21: if you get 2-3 / 5 1 player drop in AL, and clear it, that is very quick easy bonus as well. and having friendlies inside bonus i actually prefer... it is true, in order to gain the bonus means -1 region for friendly, but the fort of +2 means extra troops
2014-08-18 03:28:02 - hayesez: I recently played a guy in poly4 manual and he dropped a bunch of 5 stacks in key locations and went for regions as opposed to bonuses...was a very close match as well.
2014-08-18 03:28:31 - random21: in attack. yes, you guys went for bonus. we went for regions. we had a person miss turn.. so it wasnt executed perfectly as it could have been. but it hink you guys were right with bonuses
2014-08-18 03:28:42 - hayesez: Yup, I agree with that...don't mind taking friendlies at all.
2014-08-18 03:29:46 - hayesez: well, this was a fun mathc for us. We enjoy playing you guys and definitely learned some more about the standard format on this map. It really is a nice large map for quads.
2014-08-18 03:30:10 - random21: i lost to joriki, strong player no question. one of very few poly usa 2.1 ive lost. i got ky, Oh, he did a region bonus along with region drop. it was a very good game.
2014-08-18 03:31:25 - hayesez: well, that didn't help...you nevadans can fight!
2014-08-18 03:31:40 - random21: indeed, i enjoyed the game. im not to keen on manual still htough :P this is one of few maps ill play trench on. these are fun settings win or lose id have fun. if you can have a game where teams deploy 10-20 troops each, multiple players, thats just
2014-08-18 03:31:46 - random21: plain fun :)
2014-08-18 03:33:22 - hayesez: we really enjoy the manual deploy on this map, first nations, and eastern hemisphere....most of hte others we prefer standard.
2014-08-18 03:33:56 - hayesez: well very nice game....I'm sure we will be playing again. I sure wish they would have kept quads tourney of champions. would have been some fine teams in there!
2014-08-18 03:37:05 - random21: indeed, we will have to get some more games in together
2014-08-19 04:14:20 - hayesez: Ok Dave...bust out those jankity dice again!
2014-08-19 23:36:02 - random21: go dave go *\0/*
2014-08-19 23:48:58 - hayesez: Not what we were looking for there. That was the last gasp. Good game everyone.
2014-08-19 23:50:08 - Culham: I'll give credit to the discipline needed to deploy 37 troops ONE AT A TIME
2014-08-20 00:35:29 - Foxglove: lol, Culham - that's what I said too! 2014-08-19 16:48:10 - Foxglove [team]: 37 1 by 1, that's dedication :)
2014-08-20 01:08:20 - random21: gg everyone
2014-08-23 05:18:21 - random21: dave was in hurry, and not at his computer at home. so his deploy was a little quick this round :P
2014-08-25 07:56:18 - hayesez: chalk us up for the virtual "concede" button.
2014-08-26 06:42:03 - Culham: wow; jsut realized that i missed a turn when out of town; sorry about that everyone!
2014-08-26 21:22:59 - Shannon Apple: Total sore loser. Culham :P
2014-08-26 21:23:08 - Shannon Apple: kidding lol
2014-08-26 21:54:05 - Genghis Pauv: don't worry, he is a total real life jerk!
2014-08-26 22:06:23 - Culham: true story!
2014-08-30 19:07:25 - Shannon Apple: Ah, I know the sort. I am pretty used to dealing with total jerkbutts in real life! lol
2014-08-31 20:24:49 - Foxglove: Shannon for Foxglove, she is away.
2014-09-02 19:47:31 - Shannon Apple: Thanks for playing guys. You are good sports ;)
