Hi all,
Total NOOb here, and involved in my first game.
I was just wonderning, Is it possible to set up a game and invite on of your friends to play you without it going public?
I tried to do this with a fellow NOOb just so as we could get to grips with the controls etc for a couple of games, but both games (his and mine) were Immediately populaetd by strangers.
This is fine, and we are playing both games, But I would like to maybe play against him one on one.
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks all,
Irishtone

The only way to guarantee that no one will jump into your games, uninvited, is to make private (password protected) games. One of you will need a premium membership to do this though.

And I may be underestimating you, but premium means you pay, just making sure you know, I wasnt exactly sure when I first joined.

As of today:
1 USD = 0.686459 GBP
and
1 GBP = 1.45675 USD apparently.
This means that US$25.00 = £17.1615
(It was nearer £13.00 a couple of moths ago, so us Brits are heading in a bad direction

)

I was wondering about trying to set up games with friends without going premium and had this idea. (I'll try it as soon as I can talk someone I know personally into joining up here

) :
Try coordinating the creation of a game through the Live Chat. Decide on all your options, then have one player set up to start a game while the other sets up a Game Finder screen to find a game with those options and the starters name. (You might want to try multiple browser windows or tabs to get it all ready.) Then player one starts it, signals player two via chat, and player two finds and joins. Plausible?
(I hope the folks who run this site don't get too angry

with me

for suggesting a way to get a premium feature for free, but it is not guaranteed (someone else might find and join the game before player two could) and of course, premium membership has many other valuable benefits

That is perfectly ok, but you would be better off using the game number instead of searching for settings.

I considered that. I thought waiting until the game number was available might leave more opportunity for someone else to join up before player two could, while starting the find just a second or so after the start-game might find it earlier. I have no first hand experience with the time it takes to start a game and learn its number, since so far I have only joined games started by others. Whatever way minimizes the time between the start and the join would be best.
By the way, are there add-ons that allow users to watch for and automatically join a game (which might defeat or subsume this whole scheme)?
