-------------------------------------I remember CANADA CAME UP BIG TIME........PLANES LANDED IN CANADA....Canadians let total strangers stay with them, in their homes....SOME FOR A FEW WEEKS.....AS THE 9/11 mess was being taken care of....I was working Midnights at a Shell Gas Station...Across from were Old Tiger Stadium(Detroit Tigers,use to play in CORKTOWN,DOWNTOWN DETROIT).....I got off , got to my house...Turned the T.V. on....A Plane was hitting a building....I thought I was Watching Die Hard(like my VCR was on...As I looked up.....I Seen The second plane hit....(LIVE)......As cameras were showing the 1st one hit the 1st TOWER....
---------------------------------BUT DEMOCRATS(TEACHERS,UNIONS)...could careless....About things that happen to AMERICA...So on the 10th Anniversary , I told my oldest daughter...I have News Papers from September 12th, 2001 A.D....Detroit News and Detroit Free Press....She told me...no one (Teacher) said anything about it, not doing a report on it...WOW ... ... Frankly, I suspect that to say people didn't care about it is extremely insulting. Just because they don't make a fuss, and chose to avoid traumatising children, doesn't mean they don't care.

By the end of 1941, while Britain wasn't winning the war, it certainly wasn't losing it. Germany was being repelled in the Soviet Union, and Britain was gaining in North Africa.
Yes, America tipped the balance and sped up the end; if anything, it's more likely though that we'd have ended up speaking Russian than German, since we probably wouldn't have been able to stop them advancing across Europe, had they wished. Whether their resources would have stretched is debatable.
It is arguably a similar situation to Ukraine - they're not going to win by invading Russia, but Russia aren't making any significant inroads. If the USA, China or North Korea got directly involved, it may tip the balance. Unfortunately Trump seems to prefer dictatorships to democracies.
History should be taught, but at an appropriate age - we didn't learn about WW1 or WW2 until secondary school, age 11 upwards, and barely touched on Trafalgar or Waterloo. We weren't even taught about the IRA in the 1970s, and that was right on our doorstep. Teaching too early might leave the children hating everyone from the "opposition", in the case of 9/11, Muslims. Would a 10 year old be mature enough to make the distinction? I'm not sure.

If you haven't seen how he cosies up to other dictators, and doesn't support democracies such as Ukraine, you haven't been paying attention.
I applauded him for having dialogue with the likes of Kim; but he hasn't used that corridor of communication for good.
I'm seeing this as an outsider - I'm in the UK, which perhaps gives me a more global perspective than some in North America.
I agree, though, that Trump is deranged. Trying to rename parts of the world that you don't own - is that something a fully-functioning brain would do? I don't think so.

I nearly didn't count it, to be honest...but the US tends to be the side that remembers it for the courage of the losers. I don't know how fervently Mexico celebrates it as a victory; either way, perhaps not something to be celebrated alongside 9/11 or Pearl Harbour, which were rather one-sided and have the common link of people not passing on the salient information to the right people in good time.

First of all USA didn't single handedly "take care of the axis powers". Definitely a massive contribution, no doubt. But USA wouldn't have entered the war if Japan hadn't attacked.
Secondly, you mentioned Canadians.... friendliest people on earth and our biggest allies. And look what you Dear Leader is doing to them.
Oh and 9/11 was the ONLY time when Nato Article 5 was invoked, an attack on one is an attack on us all, and all of Nato and more came to help the USA. Many European and Canadian soldiers died in Iraq and Afghanistan and Dear Leader is acting like our allies never helped us....

As a high school teacher, I want to add a few comments.

First, I never felt a need to try to indoctrinate students, especially about Politics. I avoided the topic, mostly. I tried NOT to reveal too much about my Political Views while Teaching. Teaching Science, I rarely discussed Politics while Teaching.

I know the teacher of Government at the Public High School I was at for a long time and he TRIED very much to NOT let his personal political views be known. He taught high school seniors, just before they graduate (that is, in their last year of High School, and formal education for many).

Recently, I had a student who called the USA misogynistic. I challenged her on that view during Lunch (during COVID, students were not allowed to congregate in large groups in the Cafeteria and they ate in the classrooms. I had a small group of my students join me in my classroom during Lunch when she said this. I gave her two articles to read, one on the killing of a married woman by her husband's family in India, and one on female "surgery” by Muslims in Africa. I asked her to read the articles, and we can discuss them later. I started to think why she would have such extremist views about the USA and was sure she did NOT LEARN such things in our History Classes at our small Christian Private School. In talking to her History Teacher, we concluded that she got those views from Social Media. She was BIG into Social Media, based on some of her stories of what she does in her free time. It was Social Media, NOT our School or her Teachers, that made her think such things.

People forget the impact of peers, and especially Social Media, when blaming Teachers and Schools for extremist views of some folks, especially for younger ones, such as High School Students. Do you think the mass killers learn to do things in school? NO, it is Social Media. When Students get caught up in some small group, they can and DO use that small Social Media group to form opinions on many matters.

As demonstrated in this very Forum, many people around the world want to blame the US for many problems in the world. Some are justified and some are not. Being the world's preeminent power and influence in matters of Culture, Military, Technology, and Economics (and more), that is not surprising. Who blames Sierra Leone or Myanmar for the world problems?

With great power comes great responsibility. The US government does not seem to be responsible enough on the international stage. It should be seeking to end wars, not starting new ones...and as for tariffs if you don't do what they want, that's just bullying, and economically illiterate.
