I have to say this is a long-over due move. However, I don't agree with it. There were some golden threads in Flame Wars, and we'll never be able to over look them again when we get bored. Some threads were just hilarious.

This is a sad day in CC history. It's just once more making it 'easier on the mods'. Cause the mods are, absolutely, the life and blood of the CC forums.

Did any of you noticed the breathe taking shear lack of consideration for adverse impact, when making such a decision? This is the shape of things to come, or maybe it was always this way and I just didn't notice it to start with......

I hope you'll still be pleased with it when you're unexpectedly deprived of a popular facility. I doubt you'll still be looking in awe of their newer, shinier, brighter halos of "oh-aren't-we-wholesome-now" when it happens to you. I would say "be careful what you wish for, you may just get it", but that's closing the barn door after the horse has already bolted.

Where have you been for the last, oh say, year? There has been talks of giving FW the boot for sometime now.

Granted, there were some interesting threads, but those had become few and far between and well outnumbered by the ones not even worth clicking on.

I imagine the lack of consultation with it's members beforehand is what's got a few people upset, but I can understand the reasoning behind its removal.
Plenty of sites function well without a flame forum and after all, this is principally a game site and a very successful one - why complicate things?

We thought long and hard over at pileofawesome as to whether or not we should have one, but since we are mainly a chat forum and advocates of free speech, we decided it was in our interest to add one - if people want to let off steam, there's a place to go that doesn't interfere with the general chat or serious discussions.

Having said that, flame forums have never held much interest for me and, though it's sad to think of all that history disappearing overnight, I imagine it's loss will become a distant memory for even its most ardent supporters before too much time has passed.

I've noticed though, that 'much ado' appears to be much less strictly moderated than usual - perhaps the idea is to allow a little more freedom in there to compensate?

Apart from the burden on the administrators (which, admittedly, I know little about), I fail to see how the Flame Wars forum adversely affects anyone. For example, if I'm playing in a game and my opponent flames me in the forum, I would never know about it unless I actually went into the Flame Wars forum and clicked on the link that indicated the flame against me. I understand that people hate those people who flame; however, if the "haters" (for lack of a better term) don't actually go into the forum, the "haters" are not adversely affected in any way by the Flame Wars forum.

In any event, the forum was rather funny at times. I will miss it for sheer entertainment value. I'm just concerned that people feel that a factor in closing the forum was because it was mean or not kid-friendly. If it was to mean for you, don't go there. If you don't want to watch porn, do you avoid porn sites or do you try to get all porn thrown from the internet? A crude example, yes, but very similar.

So, for those of you who are not administrators, congratulating each other on getting rid of Flame Wars is rather stupid considering that if you hated it so much, (1) why did you go there in the first place, (2) why did you go there again after the first time, and (3) if you didn't go there again, how did it affect you in a negative manner?

There was no way to block the thread titles out of a forum search.

Because this isn't an adults-only site (which you clearly seem to prefer) it cannot reasonable sponsor a forum like flame wars.

This is not about anyone in particular, or what "flamers" did outside of FW. It's entirely based on the overall image that CC wishes to have. It doesn't matter what good, or bad the forum served. A site that has a flame forum portrays a different overall image than one that does not. CC has decided to move towards a cleaner image, and no amount of asking "What harm did it do?" is going to change their mind.

The above post is purely speculation, based on my perception of the situation. Seems about right though, doesn't it.

I don't know what the harm is to the community. In fact, I have another idea to float out there... could this be signaling a move toward advertising? Clean up the site, so that it's a friendly, safe option for advertisers, thus increasing revenue, and perhaps allowing Lack to afford a new, bigger server... could this be possible? Any thoughts from people who know, or might know?
