See, i don't hate you.ZeoEmpire wrote:why do you hate me OwlLawyer?
The reason that was fucking hilarious is because, in the story of Oedipus, he marries his mother and kills his father. All without knowing they are his mother and father. Then, when the realization hits him, he gouges out his eyes.
So you said, "Cross my heart and hope to die"
And she finished the childhool rhyme with "Stick a needle in your eye?"
BUT, with the Oedipus element added in, it reaches a new level of hilarity.

Okay, you may have to read Oedipus Rex....
"Stick a needle in my eye"
1. Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.
2. Oedipus kills himself in this fashion.
(So, going into 7th or 8th grade? As an English teacher, I am pretty sure you read Oedipus in 10th grade....)

right, we were trying to just explain the plot.
Oedipus is a man who (accidentally) bones his mother and kills his father. He comes to find out that he has married his mother, and kills his father, and he is ashamed. So, he gouges his eyes out.
Therefore, when someone is said to have an "Oedipus Complex" what one is saying is that they are a little too close to mommy. Get it?
