The problem with this is that because you don't earn a set amount of points per game, but rather lose and earn them based on your rank, it wouldn't be a good representation to say that someone gain 500 points in the last month. If a person with 4000 points gains 50, that's an accomplishment, but if a person with 500 gains 200, that could be from a single game.yorkiepeter wrote:This is an excellent idea. I think that the 6-month, or 1 year reset would be good. The thing I dislike most about CC is how protective the top ranks get about their points. At least 90% of the games played by the top ten players are going to be doubles, triples, or private. But if we remove the protective barrier, then these players won't be able to slowly and inexorably creep up the scoreboard, but instead players who are actually really good will go up faster, because they are able to win in singles games that give more points per win.
As for cheating, like it's been said, it'll be easier, not harder, to catch cheaters, since they'll be much more obvious with their sudden rise in points, and they'll get banned early on, making the game better.
However, I think the two scoreboard idea isn't good. It's mostly put in to pacify those whiners, but it'll make it clumsy and confusing when every player is gaining and losing two separate amounts every game.
Instead, there should be a symbol next to each player, signifying the highest rank they've gained, as well as one for their current rank. That would avoid the problem of pretending to be a noob and exploding up. But as far as trophies go, I think that should only be inside their profile, as it would take up too much space next to their name, and would be easy enough to find. But that's not very essential; you can have it next to their name if you want.

there won't be 2 separate scoreboards and 2 separate point gains/losses. it will work like this:
tomorrow a new era begins. all the current points are stored in the archives and we all get reset to 1000. we play like usual and 6 months later the era ends. if anybody beat his previous point record then the all time scoreboard will be updated, if not then it will remain the same. so no double point loss/gain.
also this idea could lead to some very interesting stats where on the player profile you can check his scores on different ages and so on.

I'd say yes, so long as your overall point total was preserved, along with wahyever you had gotten in the last year. i.e. A ruuning back in football might rush for 1500 in one year, but he'll have alot more than that when you throw in his career totals. This would throw a wrench in that how would this figure into your lifetime point total, with all the score resets. Maybe someone else can figure it out. I don't have the time

Oh, ok, this is a fine idea. I was just disagreeing with someone's comment from before about having two running point totals."DiM" wrote:with this i don't agree and let me explain why.SkyCaptain wrote:However, I think the two scoreboard idea isn't good. i noticed that despite the fact that at first it was something like 80% against the idea, it now seems that the approval rate increased by quite a lot. perhaps it's because the idea was a bit more refined and after some talks it was better presented, would a mod like to take down the poll and put a fresh one?
also it would be great if lack could come and say if this is possible or not, because if he says it's impossible to code it's no use continuing.

I'd like to know how points would be calculated - using the overall score or the reset score?
Personally, I don't think this will work or be well accepted by many of the higher rank players. However, I do feel an award system needs to be implemented, such as biggest improvement in x months, with trophies, etc. This would keep the high rankers happy and also give the lower rankers and noobs something realistic to aim for.

well im still against it for the total score...
Point inflation at the top only makes it easier for newbies to gain points, not harder... ive seen many captains with under 100 games, so its obviously possible... the more captains and majors, the more 70 point games that will be available to a new player, and as such, the easier it will be for them to get up there if they are so inclined...
the main score has to stay... if my score reset.. i would leave...it would be my excuse to exit... I think many would...
however... annual totals, and monthly totals would be cool to see too...
because of the handicap, which some love, and some hate... anyone has a shot at the top... its been proven time and again... if one person can get there in under 300 games... anyone can...
the majority of players dont care that much about their score though... its a smaller percentage that work at attaining a higher rank.. hell, i dont even try to gain in rank.. i just maintain mine at the mid 2000's... I only concentrate on points if I dip...
score resets would mean way more people leaving than staying... this place is a trap as it is right now... lack would be crazy to change it...
there are no clocks in vegas for a reason.. they dont want you to leave... having deadlines means people would set goals for the reset time, hit them, and take off... not all obviously, but more than the way it is now...
now, theres no sense of time...I feel commited to holding a diamond or a pair of swords...or even a goddammed crown someday... but there is no time limit...im stuck for eternity... unless you reset my score...than I can say "fitz... get as high as you can by the reset date...and say bye afterwards...... no one wants that... it would be a disaster...

Too much. I know.
Too much. I know.
i think it would be interesting to get a response from benjikat. He's been through the reset process already
Correct me if i'm wrong, but he went from captain, to lowest ranked player in the game? and again correct me if im wrong but is now back to captain and has been for a little while? wasn't it achieved in double quick time as well?
got to love the missus!
Was it seen as a challenge? or a pain in the ass?
Personally, i'd think the sense of achievement would be that much more satisfying....
im a yoyo player... sergeant to captain and anywhere inbetween on any day... as long as i know how high i have been, thats my target to beat... therefore as long as that is 'archived' i have a goal, a target.... im not fussed if that is in the current ranking system or an 'era' system....

ya an all time scoreboard and an annual one
your all time score would be secretly calculated to avoid confusion thus you would only see your annual score and rank unless you went into the all time scoreboard then it would show that rank or even if you looked at the player's profile it would show both scores

Herekilla might have hit on a plan here...AndyDufresne wrote:I'm not sure how feasible both scoreboards would...I would think that having to calculate two scores at the end of the game may be a little too much to keep track of. We'll have to see what is all possible.

Show the Annual score in the game Log... and calculate the overall score as normal but don't display it...
This could be part of Log 2.0 - you could explicitly ask for both scores - but usually - you just get the 1?
