Hey PEDRO,
AMERICANS invented the bomb, phones, subs, iron clad battleships, repeating rifles, metallic cartridges, machine guns, planes, mass production assembly lines, most EVERYTHING.
The English invented radar, fish and chips and a country we had to save from it's enemies a couple times.
Keep kicking AMERICANS. We may hang up the phone the next time you call and let you learn to speak German.

Looking at your list, Americans invented lots of weapons. Great contribution to the world. God Bless America.jefjef wrote:Hey PEDRO,

In England, pencils continued to be made from whole sawn graphite. Henry Bessemer's first successful invention (1838) was a method of compressing graphite powder into solid graphite thus allowing the waste from sawing to be reused.[10]Pedronicus wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_in ... iscoveries
Them pencils would have come in handy at the English surrender at York Town.

OK> phones, subs, iron clad battleships, repeating rifles
Well the phone is well established as AMERICAN.
The first military attempt at a sub was used during the revolutionary War in an attempt to sink a BRITISH ship.
Monitor and Merrimac iron clads battleships made wooden ones obsolete.
Repeating rifles. The Henry and the Spencer. There ya go.
How's them fish and chips?

Phones are not an American invention. It was made invented by a Brit, it does not matter where he was working at the time. The WWW was not invented by Sir Time Berners-Lee in the UK, but it is still a British invention.jefjef wrote:OK> phones, subs, iron clad battleships, repeating rifles

You never said military attempt at a submarine, you just said submarine, which is not an American invention.
The first Ironclad warship was the French La Gloire.
Wikipedia seems to think the Kalthoff Rifle was the first repeating rifle, which was Danish by the looks of it, not American.
Re: America cut off from rest of world - the internet rejoices
Inventions were invented at McGill University in 1834

Monitor and the Merrimack were arguably the first, the La Gloire was just a regular ship that had its top deck removed and iron plating slapped on the side. The monitor was actually a new ship, solely designed for river combat. It also was the first ironclad to use a steam engine, giving it the ability to have the vast majority of the boat below water and thus largely protected from cannon fire. It doesn't always matter who does it first, but who does it right first.
It disappoints me that you have so little pride in your county, I hope I do not become so embittered with age. While I do not find the US to be a "Utopian Paradise" I do not feel that paradise is any prerequisite for pride.
@BBS, It is not unfair to say the US has had upon occasion been disrespectful and destructive to other countries. I am however sure that no country is without inglorious details in their path. I feel no need to point out particular events, I am certain with a little thought anyone could come up with a few.
The purpose of holding on to an ideal like mine is to hold on to the ability to change the future.
The US is the worlds larges producer of many things. I would however, like to see some numbers of how many and what type of weapons we export to Arab countries. I have heard this before, but have never been able to find numbers to prove it one way or another. I would however agree that giving weapons to the Taliban, even when we thought thought they were the lesser of two evils, was a bad call, but hey hindsight is 2020. Beside that happened before I was even born, I hardly associate that the US's current leaders.Pedronicus wrote:Oh Please!! The place I see no honesty, integrity, honor or even basic intelligence is in those flag burning fuckheads. I hold everyone in contempt who posted that trash.
And as far as your claim that you see honor and integrity in your community and country , It's pretty evident that you seem to of missed the fact that the US is the worlds largest producer and exporter of Arms. Where is the honor and integrity of selling arms to the Saudis (who treat women like shit) or the Taliban (when they were fighting the invading Russians) or any other shitbag country that wants to buy missiles, guns, planes or bullets.
If you came from a country like Denmark, then I could understand you claiming to be living in a wonderful country, But if you live in the US, or the UK, don't, because you and me aren't living in some sort of utopian paradise.

the Middle East
Suppliers
The United States was by far the largest supplier of arms to the Middle East
during the period 2004–2008: it accounted for 53 per cent of the volume of
deliveries of major conventional arms, up from 46 per cent for 1999–2003.
The next largest supplier was France, with 16 per cent, followed by Germany
with 8 per cent and Russia with 7 per cent. These four countries thus
accounted for 84 per cent of all deliveries to the region (see figure 2).
http://books.sipri.org/files/misc/SIPRIBP0907.pdfThe increases in military expenditure and arms imports in the region have
been driven by a combination of strong economic growth, high oil prices, and
increasing insecurity due to the various armed conflicts and regional tensions.
Tensions in the region have been increased by the 2003 invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq by the United States and its allies, the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and the controversy over Iran’s nuclear power programme.
SIPRI is your friend on arms transfers.
As for what types, refer to that SIPRI document. We ship as small as handguns and assaults rifles to Hellfire missiles to even F-16s. Israeli actually has received some of our most advanced military hardware and equipment.
@edocsil: Upon occasion? That's funny. Actually, the US has a consistent history of interfering with other states' affairs--bombing campaigns, insurgency support, coup d'etats, support of some of the most oppressive dictatorships of the world, and of course outright invasion. The US usually gets itself into more trouble than necessary or further aggravates the situation and the surrounding region for very little long-term gain. The US wages its foreign policy way too aggressively and with highly insufficient foresight and afterthought.
