Some people think the catholic church wrote the bible. They hear some things someone told them about the bible, church and pope. Combine that with some experiences they have had growing up and come up with a theory.
So a guy I was working with, who grew up forced to go to church is telling a couple of co-workers, "The bible was written by the catholic church to be used as a tool of fear and oppresion." Then he says, "I know this because I grew up in the church and had to study it and take tests on it."
I later re-open the conversation and explain to him "The catholic church didn't exist when most of the bible was written. The old testament part of it was written before Jesus showed up, most of it is merely a translation, of the Torah used in present day synagoges with other Hebrew writings."
Later he told me "I've never heard that before."
He is an intellegent guy too. I'm not telling the story to sugest he isn't. I just find it interesting he felt he had a high level of bible knowledge. Yet he was completly unaware that most of it is jewish.

I like the mormon bible. Its funny as hell. Jews for Jesus are pretty funny to, as well as the westboro church (http://www.godhatesfags.com to find out about those crazy assholes). Religion is the best thing to make fun of.
In heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine... You got your things, and I've got mine.

This guy of yours might have been partially right. When the church was united (before the Schism between the Catholic and Orthodox church) there have been several sinods(???? adapted freely from the Romanian language) which decided the content of the bible. Several books have been removed (including the one that inspired the Da Vinci Code - crappy book I know). This was done to eliminate the various heresies that sprang up during that era.2dimes wrote:Some people think the catholic church wrote the bible. Also I think that it is widely recognized by historians that the Jewish were initially polytheist and became monotheist during the Exodus. I mean think about the tablets of law.
"Do not have other gods except Me".
Doesn't that make you wonder if the Jews weren't worshiping other gods before Moses?
