Maybe it's from being a Brit, but I do know a number of pagans/wiccans/witches, call them what you like.Snorri1234 wrote:And because Snakey probably meets christians all the time while I doubt he meets many believers in Odin and Thor.LYR wrote:TaylorSandbeck, that's probably because Christianity has the most followers in the world.
Ironically, my godson has pagan parents (or at least his Mum is, his Dad just says nothing for a quiet life). In fact, the first time I looked after my godson for more than an hour or two was when the parents went to PEWC (I kid you not), th Pan-European Wiccan Conference (or it might have been "Confederation", I don't recall).
I mock their beliefs as merrily as I mock Catholics, Mor(m)ons, Zen Buddists, or Pentecostalists (all of whom I have included among my friends, not to mention Moonies, JW's and members of the Charismatic Church).
I've not had the opportunity to mock Jews or Muslims for their faith so much, mainly because I know less about the faiths. Living where I do now, I suspect I'll be mocking Judaism roundly once I get to know people well enough.

I actually hear "Christ-killers" associated with anti-semitism that I have encountered personally. However, I question the veracity of the statement as having any sort of real weight other than being a alliteratively catchy phrase and generally associate the sentiment with blind xenophobia. Plus, not all anti-Jewish individuals are Christian. In short, I agree with Frigid.

Re: Whats so good about religion?
The pope once made the statement that Catholics should not make loans. So Jews got into banking. That's where their alleged 'moneygrubbing' came from.
Thomas Edison believed that anyone who made a movie owed him a royalty. To get away from Edison, some Jewish filmmakers went out and founded Hollywood. So that's where 'the Jews controll Hollywood' came from.
I'm not sure where the whole, 'Jews control the media' thing sprang from.
Many people believe that Adolf Hitler's abusive uncle caused him to hate Jews. Although it cannot be proven fact(more likely his policy was influenced by a book by a monk?). But it is true that German-Jews where successful in organizing a worldwide campaign to stop other Jews from buying German goods, just after Hitler came to power.
And In the Middle East, Israel is probably the racist nation on earth. And when their state was originally formed, they did drive most Muslims/Islamist out of their ancestrial homes. This created a little 'friction.' But mostly it is their very racist policies that continue the striff in their part of the middle east.
I don't really know that much about Jewish persecution before this, other than "Christ-Killer."
Really it doesn't seem that any Jew deserves it, except for maybe the Israeli government. Most likely Jewish persecution stems from the simple fact that in most communities, Jews are in the minority. And cowardly people always pick on those who are different and/or weaker.
So I agree with FRIGID, and NEOTENY

Re: Whats so good about religion?
They're an easy target. They didn't blend in with others and therefore hatred was directed at them. It's the same for every other group that doesn't blend in stick to themselves. Actually, it's the same for everyone who is "different". People use books or arguments to justify it, but in the end it all comes down to "they're different".
People just need someone to blame, as it's ofcourse totally not their fault the world sucks.

"Christ Killers" - This probably came from the idea that Jews crucified Jesus, although we Jews believe (for very good reason) that it was the Romans. It might also come from the idea that, Jews killed Christian babies and used their blood in Matzo. Trust me, this is completely false (I would know, I have never tasted blood in my Matzo.
Adolf Hitler's Hatred for Jews came from the anti-semitic world where he was born. He was taught to hate Jews.
As for the Israeli government, the only thing they are guilty of is doing anything to save their country. If you can find ANY Israeli act that is worse than what Muslim extremists do, I would love to hear it.

Re: Whats so good about religion?
Who crucified Jesus (although really the question is who is responsible ... a couple of Roman guards who were assigned crucifixion duty that day were the actual people who did the deed) is an interesting question in its own right. Needless to say that all of the possible parties are no longer around anymore. There are no more Roman government officials, the Sadducees mostly vanished after the destruction of the temple (no need for temple priests without a temple you know) and the Pharisees were radically changed after the realities of post non temple Judaism.LYR wrote:"Christ Killers" - This probably came from the idea that Jews crucified Jesus, although we Jews believe (for very good reason) that it was the Romans.

Turn off CNN, and pick up a book. America SUPPORTS Israel. If AMERICA didn't, then they would no longer have the funds to exist. So of course our news is 100% biased. Not even local events that you attended or were in? Or how about weather alerts? Re: Whats so good about religion?
But really isn't that an apple and orange comparison? Israel is a letigimate government, Muslim extreemists are vile rogues who care not for anyone.LYR wrote:As for the Israeli government, the only thing they are guilty of is doing anything to save their country. Make no mistake I support Israel, but that doesn't mean I have to like everything the Isralei goverment does. (I reserve the same for my own government in the US even though I admit I voted for Bush twice.) They have a seemingly "care less" approach to civilian casualties especially if they are not Israeli Jews. The "eye for an eye" mentality doesn't always work if you care about your own civilians and the extreemists couldn't care less. As a result history often repeats itself but in reverse. Isn't the Gaza strip turning into a closed ghetto? (Note this isolation hurts Israel since the farming community had a strong interconnection with Gaza; all of the major bananna export companies, for example, are located there.)
I think it is fair to say that Isralei acts fall somewhere between the United States and Blackwater.

Re: Whats so good about religion?
The Israeli's are tough. If they didn't do what they needed to do, they wouldn't be able to survive.
By the way guys, don't take me 100% on this, but I've heard many people tell me that the New York Times is heavily biased against Israel. If I had the proof to back it up, I would, but I don't, sorry. (However, one instance comes to my mind when a friend mentioned in class that the New York Times published an article that showed Israeli soldier brutality for shooting at children throwing rocks (showing three pictures (not in order, which is important, but I can't remember the order), one being children throwing rocks, the other showing a badly beaten boy, and the other showing and Israeli soldier with a gun) and saying that the Israeli soldier was shooting at the children. In reality, the boy just happened to look more Islamic, even though he was an Israeli, and he was hurt from the children throwing rocks. The soldier actually helped the boy. When the New York Times was told of this, they published a tiny little article correcting this mistake in one of the nothing pages.)
