from 16 games we've played you won 5 i won 3 and the rest were won by others so i'd say you're doing ok

of course you could start 50 public games on AoM instead of classic so i could get my points back

My 5 Maps:

AoM: It's just so damn different from other maps
Pearl Harbor: Not really confusing, there's just way too much going on for my taste
Rail USA: There are enough colors that bonuses are easy to confuse
USApocalypse: Constantly checking radiation can be annoying
Doodle Earth: Because Wit isn't a real name

I am really surprised to see the number of people who have issues with AOM. I have just started playing but it is by far my favorite. I like that there is more strategy to getting the bonus troops than just number of territories and whole sections. So far I have stayed away from anything that is not close to a traditional land map. The others scare me.

The railroad map is the hardest one as far as deployment and knowing exactly where your men are attacking or going....It needs to be clarified as far as rail line names go....maybe a # designation of some sort ....it is not user friendly...but maybe it is just me....only map that I have problems with ...for now....lol :D :D 8)

These are the most confusing for me too. I don't understand them at all so I just don't play them.
I'm pretty sure there's a lot more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking. And I plan on finding out what that is.

I am afraid that I found Pearl Harbour utterly impossible first time round. Rail USA is close behind, especially the drop downs. AoM confused me a lot at first but then I realized that it was actually very clever. Still, I would rather have just ordinary continents.

So, is it just me, or are our more recent maps becoming increasingly abstract?

This makes me feel better sometimes I think I am the only one that thinks Rail USA makes zero sense.

Also
Crosswords
Pearl Harbor (I understand Pearl Harbor it just takes twenty minutes of staring at the map to figure out whats going on)

It seems to be so. We just quenched a couple geography maps, Portugal and Italy off the top of my head, so that should help balance things a bit again. France is coming soon as well.

It is just information overload. The actual game play should be relatively straight forward. :)

Yeh there are a few more great maps coming through. I can't wait to play D-Day and I look forward to another one of qwert's WWII maps (Western Front), even though it is relatively early in development - we're nowhere near 100 pages yet!

I don't see why everyone thinks RailUSA is so confusing. It's actually really simple. Especially with the guide on the right side of the map.

I thought the guide for Rail USA was on top of the map.

This is the one map where it would be nice if the drop down (BOB or site) had the option to show the colors of the bonus groups rather than the players who own them (switch between settings?).

I mean, all the Chicago stations [eg. CHI Chicago (CAL), CHI Chicago (CAR), and CHI Chicago (CIT)] are next to each other in the drop down - but only somewhat adjacent in actual location.

So, if a blue player owns CHI Chicago CAR - you may think you are correctly attacking the blue bonus (which is actually CHI Chicago CAL).

As long as you take your time to read the abbreviations and compare the colors of the rails going into/out of each station, you should be fine. Therein lies a small problem (it's not always easy to differentiate bonus colors) - from the legend to the map [seeing as how there's 2 blues, 1 bluish green, and 3 greens, especially since the greens partially overlap]

I personally like all the "confusing" maps. Well, except for Crossword !!!

EDIT: pink, purple, and red partially overlap as well [at NYP New York (LAK, CAR, and SIL) and at WAS Washington (CAR and SIL)]
