Denomination
Non-denominational. However, I grew up GARBC - General Association of Regular Baptist Churches. We weren't special...just regular.

Albigensian. look it up.
what the catholic church would call a catharthism.
I went to Catholic school till I got booted, and I did really like it, plus I learned a great deal from every religion class I took there, buuuut I just never felt very comfortable with the faith, even though I DO believe in god. I just never believed anything the church taught, or ever had any faith in the church itself. My friends at the time were mainly budists or satanists, and that seemed equally silly.
there isn't much left to learn about the Cathar religion, but vhemt is basically a modern day Albigensian movement, nothing you would call an organized religion, more of a belief system.
check it out if you give a damn.

Charismatic: Only 1 - Hands are already in the air.
Pentecostal: 10 - One to change the bulb, and nine to pray against the spirit of darkness.
Presbyterians: None - Lights will go on and off at predestined times.
Roman Catholic: None - Candles only. (Of guaranteed origin of course.)
Baptists: At least 15 - One to change the light bulb, and three committees to approve the change and decide who brings the potato salad and fried chicken.
Episcopalians: 3 - One to call the electrician, one to mix the drinks, and one to talk about how much better the old one was.
Mormons: 5 - One man to change the bulb, and four wives to tell him how to do it.Unitarians: We choose not to make a statement either in favor of or against the need for a light bulb. However, if in your own journey you have found that light bulbs work for you, you are invited to write a poem or compose a modern dance about your light bulb for the next Sunday service, in which we will explore a number of light bulb traditions, including incandescent, fluorescent, 3-way, long-life and tinted, all of which are equally valid paths to luminescence.
Methodists: Undetermined - Whether your light is bright, dull, or completely out, you are loved. You can be a light bulb, turnip bulb, or tulip bulb. Bring a bulb of your choice to the Sunday lighting service and a covered dish to pass.
Nazarene: 6 - One woman to replace the bulb while five men review church lighting policy.
Lutherans: None - Lutherans don't believe in change.

Now, though I am fairly against the whole concept of religion and worse yet denominations, I am interested in them from a distance.
Who can explain (other than Jay) what this whole denomination thing is about?
What is the difference between the Roman Catholics and all the protestant ones?
Why did you pick the one you are? Or did it pick you?
I can't find anyone to explain Lutheran, Presbyterian (church of scotland) etc. are they just further splinters off the church of England?
It's funny because before my Grandfather that branch of my family tree would be Presbyterian yet I don't have the slightest idea about that orginisation. I actually only found out they were presbyterians somewhat recently. Maybe I should be one of them.
My dad has said that he's agnostic, (I've heard that's not a real word, kind of like aint.) he only ever went to church because that's where the boy scout meetings were.
My mother inlaw goes to Anglican churches (Canadian for epicopalian/ church of England.)as did my wife before I corrupted her. There's no fried chicken and potato salad or I would probably take my wife and go too.

Agnostic is definately a genuine word. According to dictionary.com agnostic means:2dimes wrote:My dad has said that he's agnostic, (I've heard that's not a real word, kind of like aint.) he only ever went to church because that's where the boy scout meetings were.
–noun
1. a person who holds that the existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, or that human knowledge is limited to experience.
2. a person who denies or doubts the possibility of ultimate knowledge in some area of study.
–adjective
3. of or pertaining to agnostics or agnosticism.
4. asserting the uncertainty of all claims to knowledge. To be an
agnostic imho is to be more humble than to be an atheist - as it admits that we can't know there is a God whereas atheists flat out believe there is no God.
For example, assuming that all knowledge is represented by the letters A-Z then an agnostic will say we can't know all there there is to know, ie, A-Z; And "in my experience/knowledge (say X, Y, Z because i don't know about A-W) there is no God" whereas as an atheist by saying "there is no God" assumes total universal knowledge of A-Z.
Also - imho atheism often leads to problems which the atheist will have trouble explaining. For example, say an atheist's daugther was raped and killed - they would have no recourse for demanding justice otherwise that contradicts their belief since justice is based on morals and if God does not exist, object moral values do not exist (which i take a strict atheist not to believe in). At least the agnostic has a fall back position to get upset and demand rightful justice.
