I think you should make a teacher, Mrs.Jones, blocking the door, and have her worth a negative bonus.

How Do You mean? So it makes it harder to control the door?

ok, how about rather than making the invigilators - amount of troops how about making the door a killer neutral reset, which would basically do what you said without mucking up the bonuses...

Re: Escape From The Exam Hall. Version 1.2 [20/10/2010]
Regarding your design brief. The biggest stumbling block that this map has right now is that the graphics are substandard, although impressive if you're a first time user (As I think you are). The bags are clumpy, the desks don't look like desks and the people are, well, circles. So you need to improve the graphics for this to continue.
My second biggest concern is that no one will play this map... but I could be wrong. It seems simple enough in gameplay to work as a good game. I'd highly suggest running a poll with the general question: Do you want this map? And two answers, "yes' and "no." And we will gather how much support this map has.
But the key thing is graphics that need to improve at this point to indicate you can manage in the graphics workshop.

Re: Escape From The Exam Hall. Version 1.2 [20/10/2010]
Ok, Firstly Thanks For The feedback Helix.
Firstly Even though the bags are clumpy, I want to leave them like that because kids as we are just 'sling' our bags down into piles so I made them clumpy to make it more realistic...
The people and tables do need to be made more realistic, I agree. So Legs on tables and perhaps different hairstyles for the invigilators? (However I'm having problems with where i can put the army circles...)
Poll Is also up so we can see who would want to play this map.
Ill Get Right on it...

so rather than them being clumped up, they should look more like schoolbags.
Got ya.

You should also edit your title to specify that the thread has a poll in it.
One thing you could do is find a couple of images of bookbags on the internet and shrink them down and pile them up in the corner there. In fact, that would work for almost all the objects in this map.

Re: Escape From The Exam Hall. Version 1.2 [20/10/2010] !POL
For me, the attraction of this map is twofold-
(1) I think a lot of people on CC are probably in school. As for the ones who aren't, they've doubtless been in school, and can sympathize with the premise.
(2) It's goofy, and there's potential here to put a smile on some faces as players kick some butt trying to escape school.
So, I voted 'yes' but I'd like to give a qualifier:
The map needs more work on number (2). I also am with Evil D here on the idea of running out during a test... if you want to go, why not just turn in the test- finished or otherwise- and go? Is the idea to sneak out, bribe somebody or use brute force? Something is just missing here, something that would make the idea click. I think some merry bit of mayhem in the dreary Exam Hall would help. Maybe a distraction (like a firework?) to aid in one's escape? The scenario has promise, but it's just a little weak to draw me in yet.
I don't think it's quite ready to leave the Melting Pot, but I definitely see possibilities.

I think it was flying squirrel that said I should have a window...

maybe the premise should be rather than you have to take over the invigilators to get out, keep the bags and as you suggested put in a firework or some other possible distraction and then perhaps escape out the door or window? All possibilities. I'll Work on itMarshalNey wrote:For me, the attraction of this map is twofold-

Right. Sitting In my (last
) exam today I had a thought! Listening to feed back from marshal and helix I began to think (dangerous eh?) and came up with this. 2 routes out. One being the original route ( Invigilator, Bags, door) (handing in your test, the 'good' way out.) or (thanks to marshal and flying squirrel for this) (Bags,Firework,Window) (escaping the 'naughty way out) gameplay to be kept the same nothing too complicated, better graphics and hopefully better map!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Hee hee... setting a firework and jumping out a window- it's like a ninja trick
Well that put a smile on my face to read, anyway.
By the way, you have a very coherent and nicely updated first post. I like.

If you're going to have more extreme ways of escaping, why not have more extreme ways of trying to keep them in? (Army, firing squad, shark tank)

Due To Lack Of Interest I have decided to cull this map.
Thanks to all people who commented but i can't see that this map will go through the foundry. however this is not the end of my mapmaking and when I have another idea I will be back!
Thanks
Could a mod moved this to closed.

Version 1.2 Version 1.1 Version 1 Gameplay: Each Person starts off with x number of tables ( yet to be decided.) They work there way through conquering the invigilators, ( different neutral numbers again unsure of the numbers) and through to the bags and the door. ( Bags and door will be higher numbers of neutrals than the invigilators.) The door is protected by a high numbered invigilator once youve conquered 2 invigilators a bag space and the door you win the game. There is another way to win however. For all the naughty kids out there, you can grab a firework (neutral), Set it off, grab your bag and jump out a window!(Neutral as well)!
Changes Enacted:
[Version 1] Pg.1 Industrial Helix: Legend For Map [ADDED 16/06/2010]
[Version 1.1] Pg.2 Industrial Helix & Evil DiMwit: Added Alternative Wording To Invigilators.[ADDED 18/06/2010]
[Version 1.1] Added Texturing To Tables and Doors [ADDED 18/06/2010]
[Version 1.2] Added Texturing To Doors and Legend [ADDED 20/06/2010]
[Version 1.2] Added Names to all Spaces [Tables A1- H5] and Invigilators/Proctors,Bags [1/2] and Door [ADDED 20/06/2010]
[Version 1.2] Changed Layout for front tables and other exam room objects. [ADDED 20/06/2010]
Action Plan:
Re-do Bags
Add Windows
Add Firework
Figure Out How To Do Invigilators/Proctors
Re-do Legend To Comply with new gameplay.
Any other things people might want to consider [ note: im trying to keep this map quite simple as it's my first but any suggestions welcome!]
Ok thats about it Please comment and give new ideas so I can take this out of the melting pot and into the foundry!
Thanks Muchly.
