That is a fucking joke. The appeals panel must be blind or stupid or quite possibly both. Or, of course, not interested in stamping out cheating.Thezzaruz wrote:For anyone interested *cough pmchugh cough* Arsenal and Eduardo was successful in their appeal so the 2 match ban is retracted.

While i agree it was a dive, they did say they had new evidence, but id like to see it before i believe it. Also maybe it was because there was no precedent. Either way, nice one, eduardo can now lead our attack against Liege and so on.Gypsys Kiss wrote:That is a fucking joke. The appeals panel must be blind or stupid or quite possibly both. Summed it up nicely. Fucking epl can get away with anything, it was a clear dive and uefa just chickened out cause big arsene said so and they cba with more work. If they want cheating out they have to do something about it, they just basically approved diving.Gypsys Kiss wrote:That is a fucking joke. Not at all. Using a rule that never was designed to be used for such a situation was the fucking joke. The current outcome has seen justice prevail.Gypsys Kiss wrote:That is a fucking joke.
Again, not at all. They are however able to read and understand the rule in question. It was never such a clear cut case as the scottish FA has claimed and in fact the referee still doesn't think he was deceived (apparently neither does the assessor for the match) and hence the decision had to be overturned.Gypsys Kiss wrote:The appeals panel must be blind or stupid or quite possibly both.
IMO he did dive and the PK should never have been given but that is irrelevant.
Seeing as UEFA clearly have stated that they don't intend use video evidence and that the initial ban on Eduardo was a one off case you're probably right. However that is an issue with UEFA and not the panel or their decision.Gypsys Kiss wrote:Or, of course, not interested in stamping out cheating.
Re: Football (real)
if he dives he desevers a one match ban, same thing for anyone else caught diving in any game. It would soon stamp it out.Thezzaruz wrote:Not at all. True. But both UEFA and FIFA clearly don't want to use video evidence in these situations so using it on Eduardo was never fair.pmchugh wrote:If they want cheating out they have to do something about it

No if he dives he deserves a caution just as the LotG specifies. The fact that you, and I, would like more to be done about simulation is a completely different and irrelevant discussion.pmchugh wrote:if he dives he desevers a one match ban, same thing for anyone else caught diving in any game. yes but it looked like they were finally doing something then they didn't. He cheated and the rules need to be changed to stop it or it will become a major part of the game, oh wait it already is...Thezzaruz wrote:No if he dives he deserves a caution just as the LotG specifies. Re: Football (real)
It was clear from the beginning that the initial decision to ban Eduardo never was the "start of a new era" that you want but rather a one off event. And this has really been the problem with this whole mess as the two sides mostly have been a "do more about diving" versus a "it's not fair to single out Eduardo when you won't do it consistently" and thus the two sides have been arguing two completely separate issues and hence both the first decision and this new decision would leave one side completely baffled as to how everything went so terribly wrong. UEFA basically set the whole thing up so whatever the decision was they would look like dickheads, then again that really ain't a surprise.pmchugh wrote:yes but it looked like they were finally doing something then they didn't.

Re: Football (real)
True. There's no way that it would be seen as fair to single one fall-guy out without precedent, however surely that's how precedents are set? Just 'cos it's unprecedented doesn't mean it's not right!
I'm sure everyone here agrees that simulation should have no part in footy, at the same time though every team has at least one player who has been guilty of it in the past (some teams more than most
) and every team will continue to have diving, cheating gits until the rules are tightened.
So basically it comes down to the governing bodies to stamp it out, not the teams, not the players and not the managers. Without the rules being in place, and being enforced by the ref's we're always gonna have these debates and disagreements ad nausea...
On a different tack, I was amazed that Adebayor stamping on van Persie was seen as more serious than his attempting to incite a crowd of 10,000+ to violence!

I agree, it just seems a bit harsh to set a precedent with Eduardo when they had no interest in keeping to it afterwards.Lord+Master wrote:There's no way that it would be seen as fair to single one fall-guy out without precedent, however surely that's how precedents are set? Re: Football (real)
There was contact (clearly shown by one of the replay angles and ignored by the media), he went to ground, and didn't appeal for a penalty. I really don't see how that qualifies as a dive. UEFA as far as I can tell overturned the ban because there wasn't conclusive evidence Eduardo dived, not because they didn't agree with the way the rule was being applied.
seriously?

Re: Football (real)
That doesnt stop him being a cheating git. While you may be right about the contact, Eduardo had no interest in staying on his feet. He went down like he was hit by a piece of 2 by 4. If that amount of contact makes him unable to stand up then he(and countless others) doesnt deserve the money he is on on or any respect from the fans, regardless of which team you, I or anyone else supports.icedagger wrote:There was contact (clearly shown by one of the replay angles and ignored by the media), he went to ground, and didn't appeal for a penalty. Its a cancer that needs to be cut out and that means someone has to be first. And the authorities need to keep at it and not chicken out and if the first player in the chain happens to be Carl Baker, you will not hear me complain.

Re: Football (real)
All ill say is it looks like Eduardo dived, but they need to make a rule about it to stop having to recind these bans.
Also, we better fucking win tonight or ill go apeshit.

Re: Football (real)
I just heard on the radio the only reason why they overturned the ban was because they got a forensic investigator to look at the frames. You don't need a forensic expert to see that its clearly a dive.

Re: Football (real)
That would be why they (or platini at least) are trying to get the 6+5 rule that would hurt english clubs more than anyone else implemented, want less English teams in the champions league and made a patently ridiculous charge against Eduardo at the behest of the scottish FA?pmchugh wrote:A million times more than they are towards the average sized nations.icedagger wrote:You think UEFA's biased towards english clubs?pmchugh wrote:Summed it up nicely. Yeah he made more of it than he probably should have. It's hardly rare though, you get contact being exaggerated by players in almost every game. If UEFA are actually interested in combating it surely they need to change their rules rather than just singling out a player that under their own regulations they have no case against?Gypsys Kiss wrote:That doesnt stop him being a cheating git. Re: Football (real)
No you need one to see that under the UEFA definition of a dive it is not, in fact, a divepmchugh wrote:I just heard on the radio the only reason why they overturned the ban was because they got a forensic investigator to look at the frames. Re: Football (real)
It was a dive he deserved to be prosecuted and if it wasnt for the ref being too prideful to admit when he was wrong and the fact epl (well arsenal) threw money at it he would have been prosecuted.icedagger wrote:That would be why they (or platini at least) are trying to get the 6+5 rule that would hurt english clubs more than anyone else implemented, want less English teams in the champions league and made a patently ridiculous charge against Eduardo at the behest of the scottish FA?pmchugh wrote:A million times more than they are towards the average sized nations.icedagger wrote:You think UEFA's biased towards english clubs?pmchugh wrote:Summed it up nicely. The 6+5 may actualyl benefit english home grown players in the future and is supported by some epl clubs. Actually england have gained teams in europe since platini came in
