Re: Football (real)
Oh I can't believe no ones mentioned it yet. £80m? Do you think it's too much?
My god it makes Celtic seem so cheap, we can't even pay £2m for Mowbray.

you're going to pay it now.
the Auld firm missed out on the English "Gravy train" in the late 80's. should of been able to join then and get established. far too late now.
80 mil for Ronaldo, 56 mil for Kaka and 34 mil for David Villa. 170 million and i thought we were rich.

As daz just said we agreed £2m for Mowbray. I know he will get us playing good football although I am not entirely sure he is a winner. I am pretty pleased but I guess I will wait before judging lol.

Re: Football (real)
£80m is way too much for anyone, funny how there was kicking off in the media in Jan when City bid €100m for kaka but no-one batted an eye-lid at real bidding €94m for Ronny. Personally I'm glad to cash in on him, he was rubbish this season, always seemed somewhere else in his mind, throwing stupid strops and standing with his hands in the air whenever he lost the ball (which was way too often 'cos he's a greedy twat who hates passing the ball!)
Good Riddance!

Re: Football (real)
I read in the paper today that for Ronaldo to be sold for 80 million, means he is worth 57 times his weight in gold
Re: Football (real)
l+m I doubt you really think that, he is an incredible and irreplaceable player. Yeah Man Utd can survive without him but these signings mean something major, Real Madrid are fighting back and the EPL isn't the only desirable and rich league.

I'm not saying Ronaldo's crap but will re-iterate that he's a greedy twat who hates passing the ball! He's your classic example of a glory-boy, someone who thinks they don't need their team-mates 'cos they can do it all themselves...
But yes I really am pleased he's gone now, he showed towards the end of last season that he no longer wanted to play for us so what would be the point holding on to him?
Read in the paper today (alright it wasn't a proper paper it was the news of the world) that Eto wants €100m per month after tax... Good luck with that!

Re: Football (real)
€100m after tax?! Normally I'd be inclined not to believe something like that, but seeing as it was in that bastion of quality journalism that is the news of the world...
Who do you think you're gonna get to replace him then? Valencia seems certain, Ribery very unlikely, Tevez? Benzema?

Re: Football (real)
lol lord+master if we had asked you who the best player is in the world and whether you thought Ronaldo was selfish like 2 months ago I think your answers would have been very different.

Re: Football (real)
Ronaldo who?
As for replacements, he's nominally a winger so we don't actually NEED a replacement per se...
We'll just have to see what happens

Re: Football (real)
Well I think Valencia for around £17 million is pretty much a done deal as far as a replacement goes. He's got the potential to be a pretty decent winger but you won't get goals from him.
You also need to replace Scholes, Giggs and Neville who are all past it, and either Tevez or a replacement for him.

Re: Football (real)
Giggs was widely acclaimed as having had one of his best seasons! Neville's been injured forever but is still as solid and dependable as he ever was. Scholes I'll grudgingly admit isn't the midfield force he once was but I dispute hotly any suggestion that he's past it. Players can, and do, provide vital services even after the pinnacle of their careers.
Interesting how many people are so eager to run United down at every opportunity. Apart from completely dominating the domestic scene for nigh on 2 decades what have they ever done to you?
Also, I always held that Ronny was selfish, it was overlooked because of what he brought to the team but as soon as his work-ethic/team-spirit evaporated (in the burning glory of his own monumental ego) it could be overlooked no longer.
ps Am I the only fucking United fan on this whole damn site?!

Well no, this is the football thread. Not Gridiron or Gaelic or Aussie, as you three countries (US, Ireland and Oz) are the only ones in the whole of the world who get confused as to what football means! You lot have to use the dreaded s word to clarify what the rest of the world already knew!AceGeneral*** wrote:none talk of aussie rules...

Re: Football (real)
I will miss seeing Ronaldo on MOTD in just the same way I missed seeing Beckham and his free kicks when he was sold.
What I think we should be discussing is will Ronaldo's abscence make Rooney into a better player for Man U and (and more importantly for non MU fans) England.
If Ronaldo being sold turns Rooney into a goal scoring powerhouse next season, then I can't wait for South Africa!

Re: Football (real)
Anyone watching the confederations cup? Spain beat a poor new zealand and south africa should have beaten Iraq who were also shite.
Brazil scraped to a win against Egypt with a kaka penalty. And its USA Vs Italy tonight, a rematch of the world cup 2006 group match, which italy won, and went on to win the tournament. Should a routine win for Italy over a very poor USA team.
Also, Ronaldo may have been a cheater, and a diver and pussy, but my god he was good. It was scary when your team faced him and at times he was breathtaking. Ronaldo, i hope that you play well at madrid, however i hope madrid do poorly.

What an epic game between Brazil and Egypt, the handball was hilarious. For those who don't know it was 4-3 to Brazil, they won with a very late penalty where the defender saved it off the line clearly with his hand and then went down holding his head Rivaldo stylesam_levi_11 wrote:Anyone watching the confederations cup? Also great defending from south africa to deny themselves a goal at the end

Anyway, back in the real world.............
A take-over of Stockport County from the Melrose Consortium has today been agreed, and the finalisation of the deal could be merely 24 hours away.
The Melrose Consortium, headed by ex-City Jim Melrose and backed by a group of businessmen with sporting backgrounds, today released a short statement through their spokesperson:
The administrators of Stockport County Association Football Club have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the football club. The consortium is comprised of a group of businessmen with a sporting background and is headed by Jim Melrose.
A further statement will be issued shortly, however a spokesperson for the Melrose consortium said: 'We look forward to developing a fruitful relationship with Sale Sharks and Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council which will provide the basis for a successful future for Stockport County Football Club.'
Leonard Curtis, administrators at County, released this statement hours before:
Leonard Curtis, administrators of Stockport County Football Club, have today announced that they have agreed terms with the Melrose Consortium for the sale of the club.
Paul Reeves, one of the joint administrators commented that: 'Whilst a deal has been agreed, it is subject to the Melrose Consortium obtaining landlord approval. This is a positive step to safeguarding the club's future.'
These statements are from the back end of last week, but maybe a light at the end of the tunnel?
Come on County.
