i argued that EXACT point with DiM in PM's and he thought i was nuts. he claimed that access at libraries and in schools would make up for people not affording them in the inner city, etc... but come on, who is going to run down to the library in the inner city, after dark, to check on their CC games, if they could become a statistic?!! and how many urban schools probably just teach the basics on computers and would have "games" blocked from their server, like most schools do? anyway, jiminski is bringing some meat to the cookout!-0

Certainly there are many factors that that influence the racial distribution.

Perhaps the main one might be, that primarily this game is spread through word of mouth. While many like myself found it on my own, many were referred.

The growth has been exponential, and almost pyramidal, which means that since the initial population would have been significantly more white, one would expect the white population to grow much more significantly in the future, which is why it wouldnt mirror the general population the way one might expect it to, all other things being equal.

In conjunction with the other social, cultural, and economic factors, which influenced the early CC poplulation, and continue to do so. Its the nature of how CC grows and gains more players that has the most impact. Its possibly this exponential growth that will influence it more, than any other single factor alone.

Anyway.. back to the subject... I would be very interested to see how many black people in general actually use the Internet to surf and game.

I would say that internet use would follow quite discernible patterns based on ethnic groupings.

obvious point. kind of like older people and using ATM/debit cards, etc... i had to fly up to new york to help my grandmother set up her computer, computer banking and show her how to use her ATM/debit card. she was being charged 6 bucks PER face to face with a teller. we are talking, get in line, cash a check, that cost you 6 bucks. forget some stamps, get back in line, another 6 bucks... needless to say, there are certain groups of people that are not involved or savy with certain aspects of the world/technology. i would venture further that is also falls along class lines...-0

seeing as i cant figure out how to attach a file to a post, i ran the crosstabs and a few formulas through them - the link is definite, low chi square and inspurious - 94% of white british citizens had followed the election at some stage online, the figure for all other racial groups combined was only about 10% total. there wear also correlations with gender and class, although to a slightly lesser extent. being that class is composed of culture, capital and education it will probably be easier to demarcate it with another cross tabulation to figure which of these components is most important. without doing that however, it looks like ethnicity is by far the biggest correlation re: internet usage.

based on the fact that britain is a distinctly multi culutural country and shows these figures id say the number of non-white users on cc can be put quite easily below 5%

well, too bad someone gave the thread the kiss of death when there was a tiny lull.. i mean, look at the overall numbers of this thing, and it is just a baby!!! they should have let it go at least 2 full days. i have seen some pretty stupid threads go on forever without being moved and just allowed to die.. sigh... oh well... it is really a good topic and that 5% just made it more interesting!-0
