improve the readability of the existing new map within the boundary conditions of perceived copyright issies. The current map GUI is just horrible, and would take little to make dramatic improvements without going back to the world mapNeoteny wrote:Well, what do you suggest we do about it?Neoteny wrote:The new classic map sucks!

Well I quit paying for membership after the horrible way the feedback thing was handled, and now I'm glad. This place needs some new management.
I invite anyone that is upset to simply not renew your membership when it expires. That's what I did, and I still have a lot of fun with the four games I am in. I'm a lot happier when I use this site now that I'm not paying people to screw up the product I payed for.

also gameknot.com is an excellent chess site, and like CC you can play many games for free...ode to veeck wrote:red pawn is one of the better chess sites around and pretty well administered, even through some massive growth server problems a few months back. Wow....good read! Prob. what just happened to Lack.....
Re: Crazy Maps And Dice?
I must also add (though not a paying member), that the greatest mistake was not to inform your customers about the problems in an appropriate manner. If the product your customers have been paying for somehow looses its value/changes a lot, it would be advisable to inform sufficiently about it. This will keep customers happier.
Apart from that, keep up the great work: Lack, Twill and the rest! Death to the crazy copyrights!
Off-topic: another GREAT chess site is: chesscube.com. It is still quite a small site, but nonetheless superior to all others that I have seen (IMHO).

redpawn is also free for up to like 5 active games and unlike conquer club, the red pawn admins and site support have demonstrated great communications and good techie skills when problems arose. one of the best organizational quality metrics is how a biz responds to things when they have problems and conquer club is failing right nowMajorRT wrote: also gameknot.com is an excellent chess site, and like CC you can play many games for free...

I may be a noob here, but isn't there supposed to be a "classic" map or something?
I remember seeing this game at a friend's house a while back and he was playing on an actual Risk map.

Classic Map disappearance leaves gap!
Without the classic map, the game just does not seem the same. The new map lacks personality. Something needs to be done.
Re: Crazy Maps And Dice?
Yeah, there used to be a "classic" game with a map of the world. Apparently because of legal problems with copyright that game is replaced with the classic maps of which there are two. Try them, you will find the game very enjoyable.

So...without having to search through this behemoth...
Is there a thread where people are working on a new map? I'd like to contribute what I can.
Also...what would be the guidelines to avoid the copyright issues? I mean...it's a map of the world...is it the territories that's causing some problems?

sort of .. but it is not certain/unlikely that we will have a new map. Classic Ideasmightyleemoon wrote:So...without having to search through this behemoth...

If only the powers-that-be would let us know what those issues are we could get on with fixing the problem. But so far - nil, nada, zip! Very poor.mightyleemoon wrote:So...without having to search through this behemoth...

Maybe it's because people are putting down the same 200 year old names as hasbro. That blue sam in Jim's link had the right idea.

Nil, nada, zip is exactly what they should say when faced with potential litigation. They took action consistent with a measure response to such a threat, they should say nothing. Sgt. Schultz all the way.

This one is brilliant...
Just add a couple different attacking routes...and I think this is a winner!

You can change it up a million, gazillion ways; but the simple fact is that is NOT the "classic" style map.mightyleemoon wrote:This one is brilliant...

The simple "Lucky Charm" version is true to "classic" play, because it still retains its original movement and borders with each "territory" or shape. If you add attacking routes and different countries, then you are no longer playing the "classic" map, but instead playing a new map. That's fine, I am all for playing a "new map" but as far as the "classic" style map goes, you have to stick with the "Lucky Charms" version.
It is quite alright after you play a few games on it, I really don't have a problem with it, as long as CC is allowed to stay up and running.

Three words: Surface of Mars
Use the topography of Mars; keep the same number of "lands" (or whatever is PC), same "assault" routes, paint it red, and call it "Life on Mars"... And wait for ABC to sue Conquer Club...

As long as it keeps the attack routes the same as the original "Classic", then I am okay with it.Snively_Sneed wrote:Three words: Surface of Mars

Re: Crazy Maps And Dice?
lucky charms sucks in terms of readability. I have missed seeing opponents armies in some diamonds because the shapes are pretty small relative to armies' numbers font and you confuse the colors ocassionally. Lucky Charms if it is our future needs some basic cleanup to be more usable, readableDaGip wrote:

It isn't quite alright....even after a few plays. It's horrid.DaGip wrote: You can change it up a million, gazillion ways; but the simple fact is that is NOT the "classic" style map.

The lucky charms version shouldn't have to be stuck with. To say so shows incredible lack of vision.
That map is for total shit. I know I'm not alone when I say....I joined this site to play a game of world domination.....not connect the dots.
This one I quoted is a step in the right direction for visual appeal. With the routes and movements adjusted...it's damn near perfect. (Well...as perfect as the classic was broken....SA should be worth more than AUSSIE...but...that's neither here nor there.)
