They aren't. What you English have to understand is, that is the normal way of things. When England got to the quarter-finals of the last World Cup, that was a good run, not a failure to win the World Cup. England is just a poxy little country in Northern Europe, who can hardly expect to win anything. Like Scotland - except we're aware of it.diddle wrote:i must say, our football team are going through a rather rough spot of shit, as are our cricket team, out rugby team, our tennis players.......

Wether you think you can, or think you can't - you're right

the england football team have the potential to be great, with the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Ashley Cole at the back, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerard and the soon to be returning (hopefully) David Beckham. We also have the class (and weight) of Wayne Rooney up front. He in turn can be partnered by Micheal Owen, Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe....Stopper wrote:They aren't. So the quarter finals is a dissapointment. The media make up so much hype and the promises of the players dont help. in england, they say they can win it, we believe we can win it, so the quarter finals are a dissaspointment. and to be knocked out by portugal again!!

Excuse me? maybe size doesn't matter, because, unless you're a complete 'tard, you'll notice that nearly all of the countries in W. Europe are "poxy little countries", but lots of those poxy little countries used to have empires spanning across the freakin' globe!!!Stopper wrote:They aren't. Excuse me, but I didn't notice the sudden change in the topic from international sport to international military ambitions, so forgive me if I didn't anticipate that answer.
I stand by my original statement. England has a population of about 52 million. The population of the world is over 6 billion. Therefore England has less than 1% of the world population.
England, therefore, should count themselves bloody lucky that they even get to the quarter-finals.
And God preserve us all from England actually winning the thing...

Italy won the World Cup and they have got only 57 million population. The fact is that Italy is better at football than England. Portugal beat England and I think their population is 9 or 10 million. It does not depend on the population or else China and India would be finalists every time! England however are one of the best teams in the world, probably in the top 15.Stopper wrote:Excuse me, but I didn't notice the sudden change in the topic from international sport to international military ambitions, so forgive me if I didn't anticipate that answer.

Now Italy has started focusing on rugby as well. They have just beat Scotland and in a few years time they will beat England as well. I predict in a decade or so. It always amazes me how the Italians are good in such a variety of sports. The British focus on only a handful.

yes, italy may have one the world cup, they may have a few awesome footballers, but didn't a few clubs from the italian domestic league recently get demoted for a match fixing scandal or something, that can't of done anything good for italian football!Ruben Cassar wrote:Italy won the World Cup and they have got only 57 million population. Ruben Cassar's right - don't read to much into these. One lucky result (Scotland beating France for example) fires you up the table. Nigeria was probably at 11 there because they had a good African Nations Cup, ending 3rd I think. That original list was pre world cup as well I think - it always gets more accurate after a major tournament.
we speak funny
I wouldn`t fight for Britain, wouldn`t fight for England at a push but I`d fight to get to the front of a chippy queue .
