actualy, cats can beat dogs. My cat (who has now expired ) Louie tormented a pit bull that crossed into our yard one time. He was an excellent hunter and fighter. He often came back with flesh wounds, showing how he had survived many battles. Cats are warriors. ferrets are those wimpy dudes who can't pick up a sword

If you don't de-scent them, then yes, they smell horrible. Best have them out in the garage or something. If they are de-scented, they still have a musky odor, but as long as you keep their cage clean it isn't too bad.

They have their own smell... musky is a good descriptor, but the answer is no. You can give them a whiff at a pet shop somewhere if you don't believe me. Also, they often have an inherit love of water, so you can give them a bath with no complaints. You'll have to anyway because they get into everything. My pet Goblin got into a bucket of peanut butter once. He dug it all out and spread it all over the floor. I followed his little paw trail up the stairs and into my bedroom.... and into my bed where he was resting. Was not cool.

As I understand the situation based on a couple of ferret-owners I've known, there is one of the ferret's scent glands that cannot be removed.
