In pure historical terms, Islam should be hardest to disprove because it is the youngest!

Well, considering that Islam and Christianity wouldn't exist if Judaism was false, by disproving Judaism you disprove the other two Abrahamic faiths.
How does one "Disprove" a religion? You can disprove the claims a religion makes. You can't disprove a God(s) since they're based mostly on opinion, as well as the fact that they are abstract concepts used to define the uncertainties of a concrete world.
I can disprove Christianity's supposed originality quite easily. Would you like me show you how it's built on co-opted pagan festivals and various rituals/concepts culled and cut from other older religions?

I'm talking in terms of the actual figure of the prophet - i.e. Jesus or Mohammad (due to Jays stressing of Christ). Mohammad was more recent and so their should be more evidence in first hand accounts, diaries etc. of miracles and spiritual events...ziddijatt wrote:errrr sikhism? which is the major faith that is missingGuiscard wrote:But that doesn't make it any less provable!jay_a2j wrote:mr. incrediball wrote:mm-hmm, i still don't get what christianity does that is different from any other religion.Caleb the Cruel wrote:Disprove...

This is all by the by, though. I'm just bashing Christianity because it is my only pleasure in life.

You asked why people were against religion, I gave you an answer ... that's generally the way that people who are against religion see things, the same as people who are against the theory of evolution see how it doesn't fit in to the way that they see the world, despite all the facts to the contrary.ziddijatt wrote:ye but y look at a few examples and be against religion as a whole no matta wa gd it duz?
thats how u start stereotypes
Oh, and the small matter of denying *facts* (eg the world revolves around the sun) probably doesn't help the cases for the religions that claim that those facts aren't true.
As I've said before, I don't think religion is to blame for wars -- people are to blame for wars, religion is usually just an excuse/justification for doing it.

I'm researching medieval history for a PhD at the moment, and I can tell you that there are countless cases of evidence (diaries, letters etc.) which show the vast majority of crusaders genuinely believed that, by fighting the infidel, their sins would be absolved and that they would be guaranteed a place in heaven. They didn't just go 'hey lets go to war... but we need an excuse... BING! Religion'... Religion was why they went to war. A significant portion of the peasantry believed that when they finally reached Jerusalem they were going to be confronted with a heavenly ethereal city rather than one of stone and mortar.

Well I dunno, if they were like, in an environment where they were both equally comfortable and mobile, then I guess the bear would win. Because sharks have got massive teeth and all it would take would be like one huge bite; but bears are just big and badass and could probably claw the shark to death from range. But yeah, it'd be a cool fight. Dude, my mind is like totally blown just thinking about it.The Random One wrote:Man, people on this board are too hung up on religion. Religion and Mafia. So, how many 4 year olds do you think you could succesfully fight at one time?

Not omnibenevolent, in that it allows us to commit immoral acts which we would not have been able to commit without it... i.e. searching for pornography.Syzygy wrote:I challenge you! Disprove my religion:

Good luck with the PhD, dude. Medieval history is the best .... find it very interesting myselfGuiscard wrote:Crusades?

I don't disagree at all that the vast majority of the people who took part believed that they would go to heaven by fighting, in the same way that the ones involved in the twin towers plane crash thingy almost certainly believed that they'd go to heaven when they died.
But the people who actually decided that the war should take place - possibly the pope, I'm not too up on my crusades I'm afraid - probably had something in mind other than sending a load of people to heaven! Probably more in lines of reclaiming the holy land because the catholic church would undoubtedly be in a stronger position if it controlled it's own holy lands.
I just think that rather than saying "we want to control the holy lands because it'll put us in a stronger position", the church probably went along the lines of "everyone who does what we say will go to heaven" without any theological evidence suggesting that what they said may be the case ...

I was just answering the question, what in Christianity makes it different from any other religion?
To address the other point brought up...Jesus is the Son of God and is God. This is were we get into the trinity and the questions like: "Is God schizophrenic?" (Talking to Himself on the cross)

The question was why it should be harder to disprove. Your answer didn't have anything to do with the question...jay_a2j wrote:Guiscard wrote:But that doesn't make it any less provable!jay_a2j wrote:mr. incrediball wrote:mm-hmm, i still don't get what christianity does that is different from any other religion.Caleb the Cruel wrote:Disprove...

Except God is not "biological". God is Spirit. God came to Earth in the form of "His Son" to do what no man could possibly do.... die for the world's sins.
