what do you mean split the germans in two parts.

You split up part of map in 3:21 panzer division-352 infantry-916 grenadire
But in real omaha invasion only 1 german unit fight against two USA division,916 grenadier regiment.
So you can put 352 infantry division left and 916 grenadier regimeth right.

How about make it all 352 infantry...

Then you have 352 Linke, 353 Rechts & 352 Zentrum.

(Left right and centre)

I don't quite remember the word for center that I learned when I knew German (very much out of practice) but I know it isn't Zentrum. Or at least that Zentrum isn't the common one. I'm gonna pm a few German players about it though, assuming mibi even likes the idea, but he probably doesn't.

Before we get carried away here, who all thinks the names need to change? Or I guess the better question is, does anyone think the current names are fine?

Edit: How about we just forget numbers and say Links Grenadier Regiment, Mitte Grenadier Regiment, & Rechts Grenadier Regiment.

My only problem with that is like the verity of saying Infantry & Panzers and not having everything be relatively the same name.

i dont understand, what three names are you suggesting?

916 grenadier regiment east
916 grenadier regiment west
916 grenadier regiment center.
These is first option.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Second option
you can put poll vote with simple question"do you think that these map must be historical corect"1.yes---2.no
If people dont care for these then he will vote for no.

Well you have mine sugestion.

PS-dont forget to change bayfiel with texas.

i already had the east west center option but people didnt like it because the east and west were reversed or the map was flipped. this map isn't to study off for your history test, its a game. like all other maps, i could dissect every map and find historical or geographical errors. i think the german territories work fine as they are now and would lost flavor is i just renamed them east west center or some variant. i will change bayfield to texas tho.

seriously qwert, i dont think a poll is needed, the mere fact that no one except you mentioned it in 28 pages should be proof enough that no one cares.

Well you are first map author who realy dont care what hes map present, its a shame, but these is yours decision, and if you think that you can put only names what you like, and what got nothing with omaha beach then i will dont put any post again.
You say that these is a game, well if these only a game then you dont need opinion from other people.
You will have logical reason to put these names, and people must have some counter reply to say why you must remove these sugestion.
"I dont like these" is not good reason for change some things.

You say that this is a game, well if this is only a game then you don't need opinion from other people.

We want the map to represent the idea of the D-Day invasion. We have had to balance reality with what makes sense to us for gameplay and so not everything exists with a complete historical accuracy.

As for the second part, it is only a game. While there is quality assurance that means different things to different people. We need to create something that not everyone hates. That's what the foundry process is really about.

qwert wrote:You must have a logical reason to put these names, and when people have some counter, reply to say why you disagree with their suggestion.
"I don't like these" is not good reason for not changing some things.

We aren't changing the division names because the variety we have currently helps identify different territories better, and because we like them, not just because we like them. There is also the problem of what people are identifying as being east, west, left, right, up down north south ect. Which is why we changed them to actual army names to begin with.

As an extra reason, if everything is the same except for left, right, or middle in German people are going to screw up deployments, moves, attacks, and ect all over the place.

Unfortunately we may have misplaced some groups of the German army who, while they existed, didn't for sure exist at this particular beach. At the same time however, I doubt parts of the Omaha beach were refered to as easy, dog, fox or whatever. We also needed to do that for game play simplicity.

Hopefully I didn't use too many words that don't translate well.

You make a good point...

As I would take German Left - to be on the right hand side of the map (as that's the german left)...

This could lead to problems - although - you will have it labelled up on the map as left (on the right) centre and right (on the left)...

It's a fair point though that this map is as far from reality as possible with regards to what was actually at Omaha beach that a bit of artistic license is fine...

With IWO Jima and Eastern Front the maps are meant to be historically and geographically correct - so this makes it more of an issue for those maps.

Colours

Postby Ffox999 on Thu Jul 19, 2007 5:51 pm

Plz plz plz change the colours of the red army in the green grass. I can barely see them. Now I have to admit, I am colour blind, but still, many people have problems seeying this kind of red on this kind of green.

Cheers!

Well there are multiple types of color blindness. He might be red green color blind, which means while he can see colors (somewhat) almost all shades of red and green look exactly the same to him.
