Improved Reinforcing Options

Postby Cosmical on Tue May 14, 2024 2:28 am

An option should be added for a more selective number of reinforcement actions. Currently, games can allow for only 0, 1, or unlimited reinforcement actions.

An option that allows game makers to choose how many reinforcement actions can be taken should be added. An entry box or drop down where the game maker can choose how many reinforcement actions they would like the players to be able to make at the end of a turn. The options, however implemented, should allow for selecting 2-5 actions at minimum. Granting the ability to select more than 10 actions certainly seems unnecessary as that might as well be unlimited.

0 and 1 are very restrictive. Unlimited eliminates any thought to the process and allows any errors to be easily corrected. I believe it would benefit the community to create games in which a player can take 2 reinforcement actions at the end of their turn. Or 3. Or 5. It would allow for slightly more fluidity in troop placement without opening the floodgate to unlimited reinforcing. Adjacent reinforcing would benefit greatly from this addition. Parachute in team games with this option would be a whole new game type by itself. A Eurasia game with 3 chained reinforcement actions would be far superior to 0, 1, or unlimited. There are many possibilities that could benefit the specific map, game type, and reinforcement style.

Do you think adding an option for a set number of reinforcement actions, like 2-5, could improve game strategy, compared to just having 0, 1, or unlimited actions?

I completely agree with this suggestion. Allowing game makers to customize how many reinforcement actions players can take would add a valuable layer of strategy and flexibility. Having a range of 2-5 options is ideal for most games, while limiting it to a reasonable number like 10 ensures that the mechanic remains balanced without overwhelming gameplay.

My view is that this is more a game option than a map feature, an extension of the existing reinforcement functionality rather than a complex addition to map XMLs that would actually need a game enhancement to go with it anyway..

I can imagine people may not want reinforcing from A to B then B to A as 2 reinforcement actions - we do not have this problem with 0,1, or unlimited reinforcements at present.

Having said that, this could offer some interesting gameplay nuance, particularly with adjacent and trench.

It would be good to hear more support for this suggestion.

Actually, I'll be happy to remove some support for this suggestion. I find it absurdly petty and OCD symptomatic.

2 chained reinforcements is absurdly different from 0, 1 or unlimited chained reinforcements.

I find your response to be aggressive and useless.

Oh yes, I am suggesting that it should be a game option. Not a map feature. My apologies for not making that clear.

Exactly. Adjacent would be definitely be an interesting way to use this option. I rarely play adjacent, but I could see myself using it more if I could set it to say 3 adjacent reinforces.
