Biden has been the most consequential president since FDR

Postby GaryDenton on Sun Jul 21, 2024 5:53 pm

Biden has been the most consequential president since FDR.

...

My fellow Americans,

Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a nation.

Today, America has the strongest economy in the world. We've made historic investments in rebuilding our nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We passed the first gun safety law in 30 years, appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court, and passed the most significant climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than we are today.

I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We've protected and preserved our democracy.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.

That’s why today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. And if you’re with us, donate to her campaign and Democrats nationwide here: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/p2p-240721-jbau?refcode=d20_1_fl

Ronnie would roll over in his grave, if he saw Trump embracing Putin, Xi and that rocket clown of North Korea.

BTW, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov approves of JD Vance as Trump's VP, as JD Vance said he does not give a fuk about Ukrainians. Gun shots were heard in the Kremlin, but later was discovered to be champagne corks popping in celebration of MAGA complete control of the Republican Party.

Joe Biden will go down as one of the most vapid blowhards to ever inhabit the Oval Office.
Not since Neville Chamberlain has the leader of such a prominent country flopped so hard.

He swore that we stood with Ukraine, just not enough to allow them victory over Russia.
He swore we stood with Israel, just not enough to allow them victory over Hamas.
He swore his son Hunter was innocent, just not enough to beat 3 felony convictions.
He swore the nation's border was secure, just not enough to keep 4 million illegals from invading across it.
He swore he was fighting the U.S. debt, just not enough to keep from adding add 4 trillion dollars to it.

Joe Biden: just not enough

I wouldn't call him the consequential since FDR, but he is in the Top 5.

Certainly the first president since Eisenhower to take infrastructure seriously. For 60 years American politicians put most of their money into bombing foreign countries, and what's left over into pork barrel projects for swing states, while the roads crumbled, the harbours filled with silt, and the power grid rusted. The Infrastructure Bill, flawed though it may have been, was the first serious attempt in 60 years to catch up for generations of neglect.

The Chips Act, similarly, is the first serious attempt, probably since Eisenhower, certainly since Nixon, to halt the decline of American industry and put some serious investment into high tech production that isn't overseas. Generations from now, when the smoke of partisan bullshit has cleared, Biden will quite likely be remembered as the man who turned the tide of American industry subcontracting all its production to Third World countries and brought some of it back home.

Helping ensure the survival of Ukraine is almost certainly the third feather in his cap. It's almost being forgotten now that when this war began, Putin expected to obliterate Ukraine in a two-week blitzkrieg, and based on the relative sizes of the two nations' armies, most pundits believed he would. Yet here we are after 125 weeks, more than 62 times longer than Ukraine was expected to survive, and it remains unbowed and unbroken. Many factors have weighed into that, but the vast volume of American aid is one of the greatest, and Biden had to push for that ever step of the way, sometimes fighting Russophiles in Congress, sometimes even fighting doubters in his own cabinet.

Not the greatest of presidents, but he can point to at least three stellar achievements.

This.

Bidens tenure could be summed up as half assed at best. I believe i said this 4 years ago that when he first got voted in, most of us free thinkers were under the assumption that he couldn't be worse than Trump. How dead wrong was I. Biden came in, said hold my beer, and proceeded to push the US even further down into a sinkhole in his first 2 years, then did f*ck all the remaining.

President Trump approved $8.4 trillion of new ten-year borrowing during his full term in office, or $4.8 trillion excluding the CARES Act and other COVID relief.

President Biden, in his first three years and five months in office, approved $4.3 trillion of new ten-year borrowing, or $2.2 trillion excluding the American Rescue Plan.

President Trump approved $8.8 trillion of gross new borrowing and $443 billion of deficit reduction during his full presidential term.

President Biden has approved $6.2 trillion of gross new borrowing and $1.9 trillion of deficit reduction.

Nice links
Here, have a helping of some .gov facts

Historic Taxes, Spending, and Deficits

Over ten years, President Biden’s FY 2023 budget proposed:
Spending: $73 trillion or 23.4 percent of GDP—highest sustained level in American history.
Taxes: $58 trillion or 18.8 percent of GDP—highest sustained level in American history.
Deficits: $14.4 trillion or 4.7 percent of GDP—highest sustained level in American history.

Record-Breaking Debt

Under the President’s FY 2023 budget, the debt would grow be allowed to grow by $16 trillion over ten years, or $50,000 of debt per American citizen.

Lol, nice 'research'. This is a press release from March of 2023 about a budget proposal and NOT THE ACTUAL BUDGET THAT PASSED. Not sure if you are aware but budgets that do eventually pass are for 1 year, not 10. Doing imagination maths to extend budgets over 10 years to 'make number look bigger to scare people' is a fine tactic if you don't actual care about reality.

the NON-PARTISAN cbo office put out what actually happened with the actual budget that passed for 2023 if you decide looking at real numbers matters.
https://www.cbo.gov/publication/59727

And yes, 2023 showed a 1.7 trillion dollar deficit... not good, but only half of the average yearly deficit under Trump.

Graph for US federal budgets:

https://www.usgovernmentspending.com/federal_deficit_chart

Look at the Graph: ALL of Biden's deficits were over $1 TRILLION

Trump, despite ALL that Mookie said, only exceed $1 TRILLION in 2020, to combat the COVID and economic downturn. Check the Facts.

https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/

Obama also had HUGE deficits. Is there a pattern here? Hmmmm.......

Let's ignore Trump's latest felony violations of the Logan Act to look at his performance as president.

He was one sick lying POS who completed the task of heading the US into bankruptcy after Bush-Cheney said it is much more important to have low taxes for our donors, the rich and corporations, than to keep paying down the deficits like Clinton.

Timing of the debt gets tricky and how long should it be counted and fiscal years vs. calendar years, so I'lll use the Committee For a Responsible Federal Budget again.

The major actions approved by President Trump (and ten-year impact with interest) include:

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 ($1.9 trillion debt increase)
The Bipartisan Budget Acts of 2018 and 2019 ($2.1 trillion debt increase)
ACA Tax Delays and Repeals ($539 billion debt increase)
Health Executive Actions ($456 billion debt increase)
Other Legislation ($310 billion debt increase)
New and Increased Tariffs ($443 billion debt reduction)
The CARES Act ($1.9 trillion debt increase)
The Response & Relief Act ($983 billion debt increase)
Other COVID Relief ($756 billion debt increase)

How Much Debt Has President Biden Approved?

Over his first three years and five months in office, President Biden has approved $4.3 trillion of new ten-year borrowing, or $2.2 trillion when excluding the American Rescue Plan Act. This includes $6.2 trillion of deficit-increasing legislation and actions, offset by $1.9 trillion of legislation and actions scored as reducing the deficit.

These estimates are based on scores of legislation and executive actions rather than retrospective estimates and do not include preliminary rules, unexecuted “side deals,” or actions ruled illegal by the Supreme Court. Updated scores and in-process actions would increase the total. For example, an updated estimate would likely wipe away the $252 billion of scored savings from the Inflation Reduction Act,4 the informal FRA side deals would reduce its savings by about $500 billion, and the new student debt cancellation plan could cost $250 to $750 billion.

Total $8.4 Trillion in 10-year debt approved by Trump.

And $4.3 net 10-year debt approved by Biden.

The major actions approved by President Biden so far (and ten-year impact with interest) include:

Appropriations for FY 2022 and 2023 ($1.4 trillion debt increase)
The Honoring Our PACT Act ($520 billion debt increase)
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law ($439 billion debt increase)
Other Legislation ($422 billion debt increase)
Student Debt Actions ($620 billion debt increase)
Other Executive Actions ($548 billion debt increase)
The Fiscal Responsibility Act ($1.5 trillion debt reduction)
The Inflation Reduction Act ($252 billion debt reduction)
Deficit-Reducing Executive Actions ($129 billion debt reduction)
The American Rescue Plan Act ($2.1 trillion debt increase)

Both of these presidents were not good debt stewards, but Trump managed to be worse while lying constantly along with the other Republicans chiming in about how trickle-down would solve the problem, just you wait.

During the next presidential term, the national debt is projected to reach a record share of the economy, interest costs are slated to surge, the debt limit will re-emerge, discretionary spending caps and major tax cuts are scheduled to expire, and major trust funds will be hurtling toward insolvency.

Ever since FDR, Republicans have always claimed Democrats cause all the debt with government programs while having worse federal debt records with their tax-cuts-and-keep-spending policies.

Maybe you can do better?

Trump can not complete a sentence, he's incoherent, suffering just like his daddy from dementia, falls asleep during his trial, is a convicted FELON, been impeached twice, he's a rapist, rascist, self-serving, grifter and still owes hundreds of millions of dollars in fines.

Even MAGA has embraced the idea that Trump wears diapers, there's no shame in it JP.

BTW did you just call someone childish for saying Trump wears diapers and then attack Biden with the same thing you had just claimed was childish?
