Julian Assange to be freed

Postby Lonous on Tue Jun 25, 2024 5:33 am

WASHINGTON (AP) — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will plead guilty to a felony charge in a deal with the U.S. Justice Department that will allow him to walk free and resolve a long-running legal saga that spanned multiple continents and centered on the publication of a trove of classified documents.

Freeing Assange and bringing an end to the travesty of his incarceration is long overdue, but it still surprises me.

If all secrets (State or otherwise) are to be dismissed as 'deceit'... then by all means, 'leak' away, ...under the noble banner of Truth, no less.

Assange left a British prison on Monday and will appear later this week in the U.S. federal court in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the Western Pacific. He’s expected to plead guilty to an Espionage Act charge of conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified national defense information, the Justice Department said in a letter filed in court.

President Trump has vowed to grant Assange a full and complete pardon.

I see all the cool kids think Assange is the coolest!

Julian is pure scum.

"Assange v Swedish Prosecution Authority were the set of legal proceedings in the United Kingdom concerning the requested extradition of Julian Assange to Sweden for a "preliminary investigation"[1] into accusations of sexual offences allegedly made in August 2010. Assange left Sweden for the UK in 27 September 2010 and was arrested in his absence the same day.[2][3][4] He was suspected of rape of a lesser degree, unlawful coercion and multiple cases of sexual molestation.[2] In June 2012, Assange breached bail and sought refuge at Ecuador's Embassy in London and was granted asylum."

November 2019 – Swedish prosecutors drop their rape investigation, saying the evidence is not strong enough to bring charges, in part because of the passage of time.

Whaat?? Did you take the phrase "all secrets" to mean that I said Assange leaked all secrets ever, or anything close to that??
Nevermind you attempting any critical thinking, ...if you can even achieve a modicum of common sense that would be astounding.

No, Assange leaked U.S. military secrets during a time of war.

So there is not enough evidence, ...but that won't stop the Sewer Rat from passing judgment.

A time of unjust war commenced under false pretenses, leading ultimately to the deaths of (conservatively) 100,000 people and the dislocation of millions more.

If there's a better time to bring the leaders to account and expose their secrets, I don't know what it is.

Conflict is full of fog, secrets, propaganda, etc. Oh yeah, and people get hurt and die.
It's just too disgustingly disingenuous to act shocked about it, especially in a partisan way. See also Hamas/Israel conflict.
Of course, people do often choose sides. Assange/Manning etc. chose Sadaam Hussein and the Taliban...

The whole concept of 'war crime' is just a partisan propaganda talking point.
Don't believe me? Go read up on how ralf defends Hamas actions, ...then read how the other talking heads around here defend Israel.
The basic idea is to try to spin your opponents tactics and weapons as being so, so much worse than your own much more fair and merciful acts of destruction, ...LAME.

War Always Kills (maims, starves, burns, flattens, poisons, nukes, etc.) Deal with it.

If you can find a post of mine where I've defended the actions of Hamas I'll buy you a year's premium.

It is possible to oppose any and all war crimes. Many people do, even if you don't.

Every post you have made implicitedly supports Hama's actions, you fundamentally insincere sino-spy.

There is a simple word for most (at least 9 out of 10) mouthpieces who try to claim to endorse complete world peace and total non-violence: LIARS.
We can safely place ralf in this larger group. ...as for the Piss-rat, he/she/it is just a foul little cunt.

And as for the other much smaller group that has truly convinced themselves of such a possibility, across all space and time, ...and across all ethnic, religious, racial, national, and political groups.
That is not only self-delusion, but also the promotion of a most dull, stagnant and static pseuod-reality that denies both the inevitability of change and the manner in which it is truly accomplished. Fortunately, it is complete fiction.
