I wonder the same thing about the "Scott_land Gang" who seem to have popped out of the wood works in matters that don't concern them. I started this thread to inform the community of my observation and Hulmey's opinions are a refreshing take on an old subject....

Nice to know CC still has a few members worth playing...Hail to the Malta! Hehee

This is for Mace.
I can fully understand your frustration and confusion with the game you played against Scott and his friends, Especially if you have never played one of his games before. What surprises me is that nobody has taken the time to explain their tactics to you, or the reason Scott was so pissed with you actions, so here goes, I will try and enlighten you.

The object of the escalating games they play is of course to win but that win will normally come with an elimination of all players (in most cases) in one turn. by eliminating one, collecting his /her cards then move on to the next, and so on. Yes, you will see them moving out of each others way as they have no intention of trying to take anybody out until they are able to sweep the board so to speak.

Their play from move one is geared to this end and if you are unaware of this then the play can look suspicious. It's all about positioning your armies for these guys, conti bonuses or the taking of their opponents armies doesn't come into the equation. They will attack only to gain a card.

The reason Scott was pissed with you is because you removed both of your chances of winning by depleting your's and his armies to a point where neither of you could win. His armies next to your's were no threat until he could win the game in the manner I have explained. If you were going for the win with your attack and failed then that is a different story but without actually seeing the game I don't know if this was the case.

I hear you Podge

Podge,

Thanks for the input, you are right that play can look suspicious when you are playing people who know each other in a private game (especially escalating). I am aware of strategy in escalating games, however we have to consider the fact that the other players did not participate in as much "friendly manuevering/attacking" as the two in question. Did I or anyone else get requests to move or thank you's? And we have to lose the ridiculous assumption which Scott has perpetrated throughout that I was not playing strategically.

First off, my initial placement was not as fortuitous as the others, but I decided to try and pull my resources to wipe someone out early. This fact put other players on alert that if within reach they would be eliminated by me. I figured since it was escalating, as long as I kept the most armies on one territory and only made attacks for cards that I would always have the most men on a territory ready to wipe up from the center of the board.

When we were coming near the end of the game with turn-ins worth 30-40 armies, I knew it was possible that in order to get to my next turn, Scott would have to be eliminated (based on turn order). So I did what I had to do with the aggressive play, figuring I would still be on the board when my turn came up again with (30 plus armies) and I might possibly get a turn in to eliminate others (with 60-70 plus armies). In the end it just wasn't in the cards for me. My attack not only forced KoE to wipe up Scott (or there was really something wrong), but it was also strategic because KoE was not in position to eliminate me or win the game. Why not get one more off the board!

I'd be pissed too, if I were Scott (in position to win, and see it taken away) but that is the name of the game. The only difference is that I wouldn't take it out on someone I invited to play with negative feedback afterward. Truthfully, to be suspicious throughout the game, then to get poor sport negative feedback was enough to warrant this thread for others to be on notice. I can handle the verbal abuse, but let's remember, I lost the game too. Just consider this my way of bringing balance back to the Force.

Scott and KoE's suspicious play maybe wasn't as offensive as other blatant attempts (see gm 254805) but as you can see in the many pages and in my negative feed, there is definitely some abuse, all other members are considered to now be on notice. That's all this is about...

its almost impossible to prove a secert alliance mate....I'm not sure if mod's have the right's to read other people's PM and that is probably the only tool they have to catch the guilty party.

I know KOE quite well and he is a honourable player and wouldnt stoop as low. Also most good players know what to do without actually having to say anything.
