Make separate ranking categories...

Freestyle ranking
score: xxxx
Speed ranking
score: xxxx
Clan ranking
score: xxxx
Tournament ranking
score: xxxx
Sequential ranking
score: xxxx
Polymorphic ranking
score: xxxx
Show other people who is good at what... open up a new crate of medals going up the ranks..

been suggested multiple times... this was the first suggestion when they were going to change the freestyle rules to appease the standard players that had no chance of catching members like King Herpes and Rabbiton... then came the realization that you would have to do scoreboards for every setting, game type, etc... do a quick search, the discussion was fascinating... in before the lock/merge... the black jesus has spoken...-Bj

So the only reason not to do it is the hassle of creating multiple scoreboards?

Before there was a beta team, bigWham had a working version of this but a)there was no mod interest/support, b) the math is the most difficult part of it c) if a person is #1 in the world in freestyle, how could you ever pass him if he stopped playing or played just enough to be safe and d) we already have tournaments.

There are other metrics for determining clan and tournament success, so you can drop those off the list. There was a ton of other categories that we tested out though. Keep in mind it's about building around the current game system and not adding new scoring systems into the games.

I've seen some pretty impressive tournament players... the metric would be
Regular ranking --> Sequential / base ranking (think experience points)
IFF Tournament --> (Score directed to or "send to") Tournament ranking
IFF CLAN --> Clan ranking
IFF Freestyle --> Freestyle ranking
IFF Polymoprhic --> Polymorphic ranking
or include this into Team games
-- then it is team/freestyle
-- or team/clan
Question being what do you do if they fall into two categories.. I think clan games override anything and team games can sit into sequential, but anything freestyle should fall into freestyle...

Special -- Speeder (settings not include IMO)
-- this one will take some work ... there should be fast 1-2 minute, medium 3-4 and slow 4-5 (or 5-6 to make it simple?)
there are no clan / (barely any) tournament speeders
would we want to effect regular scores and create categories further?

IFF Beta map -- (settings not included) --> Beta score

Clan and tournament games already have a ranking system, why should we develop another one?

I would prefer a score per individual.

Clans obviously work as a unit, but players in a clan who mess around and play speed games or any games with high variance (luck dispersion) are going to have unreliable stats.

Also, some players step up their games for tournaments, mind just looking at their medals, why can't we see who has been dominating the tournaments recently?

I casually played in a tournament wherein a guy was super serious about winning and targeted me... costing me 2 or 3 games because I was in 2nd or 3rd place among the leaderboard. He won the tournament, but I was shocked he was so serious he would cost himself 2 or 3 games as well because he knew I needed to come up with wins from impossible scenarios... Well if he was giving points based on tournament performance I'm sure he'd be among the top players.

I have not said these things are easy to make or devastating not to have... but if it's implementable, then I would love to see it.

why don't we just base this new system on people that have and haven't beaten you? that is one of the most arrogant posts i have ever read on this site... this is the black jesus talking!!! i mean, if i say it is arrogant, it is beyond the pale!!! ha!! regardless, it is not going to get done. there is essentially no Suggs mod here to move things along, and there hasn't been for almost 2 years. i believe we have had 2 suggs implemented in the past 3 years. no way this idea breaks free of the clutter and is moved into reality... it was brought up years ago, good luck moving this idea along...-Bj

Very true... you're hired BJ ;P

And well, I am just saying, he implemented a hell of a strategy... not sure why that makes me arrogant haha I appreciate the honesty though! More-so I was shocked that he killed my tournament chances with such an obvious strategy, but he was in position to win a trophy, so why not...
