prior in the thread, it was explained that there have been multiple attempts at it, as posted by Duk

Dukasaur wrote:Besides those, a lot of people would name the phone app as the highest priority, but at least five programmers now have tried and failed to build one, so I don't think it would be productive to sink more time into what would probably be another failed attempt.

i agree that this would be the biggest benefit to the site. however, if they are still working on it or attempting it, then i'm going with sorting maps/map rank, etc... the black jesus has spoken.-Bj

I can use CC just fine on my phone, don't understand what the need is for a mobile app or what would be different to present.

great for you that it works on your phone. it does not work on all phones/tablets. this is something that lack thought of way back in 2007 and it has been in suggestions ever since then. so, for 8 years the discussion has been going, i am kind of shocked that you have never heard anything about it, with all the time you spend in the suggestions forum. it is kind of funny to go back and read it, you really see how much the internet has changed. one of the main concerns was massive charges for playing on your phone. sigh... anyway, here is the thread (search is your friend):

Subject: [Site] Conquer Club Mobile App

here is lacks first post in the thread:
lackattack wrote:I have thought about creating a mobile version but I'm not sure how. I figured a good approach is to design a WAP text-only interface that people could use in their cellphone browser. But how to display the armies in test? some sort of matrix??

Now, building a java client inteface is something I never thought about. It would need to contain only display logic so that I can make updates to the game engine without worrying about all those people with cellphones having the wrong version. I have installed a few Java games on my cellphone, but none of them are online games. I wonder whether games and apps on my cellphone are allowed to access the web...

here is a follow up a year later from twill:

Twill wrote:We considered this pretty early on but it was set as a really low priority and has gotten lower since then :)

here is one from andy in 2008:

AndyDufresne wrote:Mobile is an idea that has been around for a while on CC. We'll have to see what happens in the next couple of months.

blake in 2009:

blakebowling wrote:This is a computer game, not a mobile game ;)

Seriously though, I think the best solution would be for someone to make apps for the Blackberry / iPhone / G1, instead of turning the site into just a mobile site.

chipV explained the complexities of the idea:

chipv wrote:This is a perfectly reasonable request but the execution is rather more complicated because the site is currently XHTML Strict 1.0 compliant.
A website would need to comply with XHTML Basic 1.1 (more or less a subset of XHTML 1.1) to be mobile-friendly.
Upgrading the whole site or even just the games pages is not easy, there is quite a lot of work.
Alternatively you could argue for a separate mobile-friendly site/part of the site, but the maintenance work on this would, I think, make it unlikely right now.

I can see the validation errors in the mobile web page validator preventing Opera Mini from executing its mobile view, and although they don't look difficult to fix, it would be a non-trivial task to keep the site mobile-friendly.

here is andy at the start of 2010, saying to look for it at the middle or end of 2010:

AndyDufresne wrote:Dear Wimbleton,

An i-phone application is definitely something we are interested in to grow Conquer Club. It is on our slate for 2010, and it looks to be more towards the middle of 2010 and less towards the end of it!

sempai figures it out in 2011:

sempaispellcheck wrote:I don't know if anyone mentioned this before, but a smartphone app, if sold in the iTunes Store, Android Market, etc., would attract new users to CC, and purchases would add to the site's income.

and james merged them all up in 2014:

JamesKer1 wrote:MERGED Phone/tablet App

is has been a topic of discussion since almost the sites inception. they have not figured out how to do it, but i think they need to figure it out if "WE", as a community, are going to survive.-Bj

p.s.- you are welcome for my having done your homework for you.

My #1 (even though I might not use it as much) would be creating a mobile friendly platform for at least some portion of the maps. (Perhaps cataogorize the maps as mobile friendly, or even have mobile friendly tourneys) It's the only way I see a future for CC. the whole site doesn't have to be mobile friendly, but as long as you find a way to include mobile users I think that's your only hope at increasing a user base.

Wow, WAP!!!

That is like looking at the dawn of time.

but credit to lack for thinking then that a mobile app might be worth thinking about

Yeah that place reminds me of that Simpsons clip where Homer puts a complaint form into a complaints box, and it slides down a pipe and into a pile of paper being eaten by a goat.

Except our last goat died of food poisoning 7 months ago, and we can't afford a new one.

A phone app, definitely. Tablet first, sure, but something that could be available in the App Store and on Google Play would be huge. I don't think 100 hrs is enough time to code it, though.

I checked to see what other browser games are also available in app form. The old stand-by, Travian, isn't, although an app has been promised. Their game Rail Nations is testing an app version that's supposed to be compatible with their browser version. Another game, Grepolis, allows users to play the game either using the app or the web browser, and there are doubtless others out there.

I get the sense that it's pretty tough to do, and you need a dedicated team to pull it off.
