This is not an open tournament. Only eligible players may join.
Players eligible to join this tournament are those who have earned at least one medal (either win or GA) in the series. If you're not sure, you can check the series Hall of Fame.
A number of the players eligible have left the site. We'll leave this open for a few days and see who's around. The final format of the tournament may change depending on how many we have. Tentatively, what I'm thinking is:
- a 32-player 1v1 tournament structured the same way as the rest of the series, but with more games. Best-of-3 first and second round, best-of-five third round, best-of-seven fourth round, best-of-11 final. For eligible freemiums, we can make play games one or two at a time, or if there's a lot of them I might consider gifting some small amounts of premium.
- There are altogether 29 players eligible, but some are eligible more than one way, and of course some have left the site. We'll allocate the available spots as follows:
- The 29 players eligible are all guaranteed at least one spot. (Edit: They must, of course, be willing to play, and confirm their participation.)
- Assuming at least a few of the eligible players do not claim their spot, those who have more than 1 win will get a second spot.
- If step 2 leaves us with less than 32, then Jigger1986 (the only player with 3 wins) will get a 3rd spot.
- If step 3 leaves us with less than 32, then those players with less than 2 wins but 2 or more medals by virtue of a GA medal will get a 2nd spot. If there are more players in this category than spots, I will have a special play-in round to determine who gets those spots. The format of the play-in round will depend on exactly how many spots need to be filled.
- Contrariwise, if there are still unfilled spots after step 4, I will take all the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers in the original tournaments and randomize the list, and offer them the remaining spots, no more than one each, starting from the top of the randomized list.
- The above process will leave some people with more than one spot on the bracket. I will use the bracket-randomizing feature at http://www.Challonge.com as I always do. In the first three rounds, if you are lucky enough to meet yourself, lucky for you! You advance! In the final two rounds, if you meet yourself, no free pass. In that instance, I will resurrect the non-winning player who had the most 2nd starts in the tournament thus far. A separate list of 2nd starts will be kept, and this will be the only use for it.
The final winner will get a GA medal and a year's premium.
