Baffling stuff again, B. I'm up for an open discussion, if you are, but that might mean you'll have to reconcile your single issue posting with my posts.

I think you've taken the first step in admitting to yourself that there are other issues I care about. I can see that that must have been tough, what with the fairly obvious discomfort and self-justifying that followed.

This is not a new policy. As long as I've been on CC, people who have offensive usernames, signatures, etc. have gotten friendly nudges asking them to voluntarily change them. And most people, once they realize they're making others uncomfortable, do comply.

This from the guy who thought that Confederate plus SS as a username plus the Confederate flag was inoffensive?

What happens when a username commemorates the Nazis, and a nation whose cornerstone was slavery?

If that's not an offensive username, what is?

I, personally, am not offended by anyone's username.

Just to be clear, I was not in any way involved in what went on with the OP. I am not one of the people who reported him, I did not process the reports, and I did not offer my opinion on them. I posted here for the simple purpose of rebutting Owen's post about this being a new policy. I clarified that this policy has existed at least as long as I've been here.

You might consider not reflexively attacking people who simply step forward to offer relevant information.

It's certainly worthy of consideration, Mr "I didn't know the SS meant Nazis"

Kidding! Though obviously you didn't exactly go out of your way to correct your mistake.

i'm not quite sure what DSOIV's issue is here... and Duk, i did not claim it was a new policy, i QUESTIONED if it were a new policy. HUGE difference. please don't put words into the black jesus' mouth (we can discuss other things via pm, if you know what i'm sayin ;) )... the black jesus spews enough crap, without being saddled with things he did not actually utter... however, i do concur that DSOIV seems to simply want to attack you for being helpful. i don't understand this destructive behaviour, it confounds and perplexes me... the black jesus has spoken...-Jésus noir

Very well.

You could use a break- apologies for giving you a hard time about it, and to he fair, you did accept via PM that you were duped by the username and his posts.

So... ever tried lavender ice-cream? And what's your take on gelato?

I slightly prefer gelato to American-style ice cream, but I like both.

Actually, took the wife out for gelato today. We went to, or at least intended to go to, Cows, which according to a Readers' Digest poll is the best ice creamery in Canada. Cows is a small and hoity-toity chain. There are less than 20 locations across Canada, all in very upscale and/or touristy locations, and the only one in Ontario is in Niagara-on-the-Lake, right in the tourist strip.

By a miracle I found a parking spot only one block away, and I walked down to Cows to fetch the ice cream. When I got there, the line was a triple-S bend through the store and out the door. So I said to myself, "I don't care how good their fucking ice cream is; I'm not standing in that line."

Right across the street from Cows is this relatively unknown pastry shop which also sells ice cream and gelato, so I went there instead. The line was a lot shorter. The wife has really boring tastes, so for her I got a strawberry shortcake sundae with a bonus layer of black cherry gelato. Safe, predictable. For myself, I got Nutella ice cream with a layer of passion fruit gelato. I also got a big cappuccino.

Getting it back to the car was a mini-adventure. It was 33 degrees Celsius today, and sunny and windy, so the moment I left the shop it was like trying to carry ice cream through a steel mill. The heat just hit me like Hephaestus' fist, and the ice cream began melting instantly. Didn't help that gelato has a slightly lower melting point than American ice cream. The stuff was all running down my arms, and I had a block to go back to the car, holding two large ice creams and a large cappuccino. Got it back to the car, cranked up the A/C to max, began licking the stuff off my hands and the outside of the cups.

Soon found out I had made an excellent choice. The cappuccino was garbage; I needn't have bothered with that. But the ice cream was nothing less than amazing. Nutella is so thick and rich, and passion fruit is so crisp and acidic, they were the perfect pairing. A big bite of the Nutella ice cream, so rich and thick and sweet, and then a quick zip of the passion fruit gelato, a perfect tangy palate cleanser. Basically the icy equivalent of truffles and wine.

Absolutely amazing.

Dear DSOIV, at no time have I suggested you are sub chinese. Hainanese chicken rice is one of my favourite dishes to order at chinese or singaporian restaurants. I'm loath to debate you, as you seem to be unable to answer questions directly. You always dissemble or deflect, go off on some weird tanget or generally just give random responses. A debate requires a more formal level of argument. Something I suspect you would be unwilling or unable to do.
