This.
I honestly have no idea what 95% of the maps/options are all about now. Loads of games I could sign up for but I don't want to.
so, because you don't have the time to learn maps/settings and are wholly ignorant of them, they should be eliminated, despite others loving/enjoying them? sounds awesome...-Jésus noir
The question is about how to reverse the decline in CC (which is bloody glaring as someone who has only just logged on since 2008 or something similar). Logging into a website of familiar game and being completely none the wiser is genuinely off putting. It also spreads the gameplay load very thinly making a somewhat active site look completely inactive. So if you want to reverse the decline then getting rid of some maps and options sounds like a brilliant idea to me. However much some people love or enjoy them.
You're right I can't be bothered to learn new maps and settings sue me and my full time job, home life and real world. You shouldn't get rid of them because I don't have the time but because the people we want to attract (and keep) don't have the time.
The Voice mentions "newer and returning users".
1) New users have a more restrictive map selection, so its already narrowing their choices down until later. So they aren't being "confused" by the huge map selections that experienced users have.
2) Returning users, while I get seeing new settings might take some getting used to "what is zombie spoils?!?" a returning user would more than likely be more adapt to find this information and know where to get it, or where to post in forums to find out.
Its not like we have 300 new settings (like the maps) the handful of new settings takes a very, very short time to "figure out" unlike perhaps the variety of maps. But again, as a returning user they would be more skilled in searching their games of choice out using game finder or join a game then newer users, so why is this such a difficult thing to figure out? I really have no clue.
Can it be improved? Certainly. I think organizing the maps more would be beneficial. Is the few new extra settings scaring off hundreds / thousands of returning users, or keeping new users away? Not very likely. A few perhaps, and a few is more then we should aim for, but again, we aren't talking about droves of people running away because they added zombies, or parachute anymore than its intriguing a few that returned not expecting any changes and want to try out the new stuff.
