Reset Stats Option

Postby iAmCaffeine on Thu Jan 07, 2016 11:23 am

Concise description:
  • The ability to reset one's statistics/profile upon reaching certain targets

Specifics/Details:
On many console games it is possible to reset your profile/statistics after reaching a particular target (tenth prestige on Call of Duty, for example). You don't change your name, simply the stats from your performances. People do this for various reasons, such as:
  • Having learnt a great amount during the process they wish to demonstrate it afresh
  • They have personal dislike regarding their statistics
  • Desire of a fresh start, quite often due to a "burnt out" feeling
This could easily be limited by games played (3k, 5k or 10k) or perhaps via a buy-out clause. It's no secret Conquer Club is dwindling so by charging for this feature CC's profits would increase, providing more funds for advertising, updates and features. As a result membership could also hit an incline.

Of course, this is something I would enjoy personally (because why else would I suggest it?), but I believe it offers a lot of incentive to players on a general basis. The amount of players who aim to achieve every medal is ridiculous, and once they complete their task they could start again, or try something different. I do think an exception would have to be made for those who have won Championships, Clan Wars or reached Conqueror, as these are site-wide recognised achievements that should remain documented permanently.

One of the main reasons for not allowing multiple accounts is the ability to play "under the radar" - appearing to be a new, inexperienced player when in reality said player could have tonnes of experience and be a CC expert. If you cannot change your name when resetting stats then this would no longer be an issue. I don't believe there are many who've played in excess of 5,000 games that go unnoticed. Perhaps a symbol could be added to the player's profile if they did reset. I assume an archive would also be required.

I believe it best if the player in question also had zero active games.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Give people new incentives to play
  • Reduce number of multiple accounts
  • Player happiness % increase
  • Increased profit
  • Increased membership
  • Increased advertising

This is really off the cusp and I'm sure I will have changes/additions to make to this suggestion, as will others. Let the debate commence.

You are speaking about unique kills, game played, score ?
Would it be possible to erase all medals without erasing the game played ?
Would it be possible to erase game played ( and therefore win %) without erasing medals ?

I believe it best if the player in question also had zero active games.

Too hard to achieve for us caff ! I don't like this part of the suggestion, especially because even if I tried auto tournament would prevent me having 0 active game !

I would erase # of games played, win % and unique kills. I would also erase medals since, if said player is happy enough to sacrifice the other things, why not the medals too? I only believe Conqueror, clan war and similar medals should remain.

I believe it best if the player in question also had zero active games.

I originally thought the same way, but then if you did reset and had twenty active games, would they instantly count onto the fresh statistics?

Your generalisations, incorrect information and derailing of this thread are a hindrance to my suggestion and a token of the various reasons why the suggestions forum receives such little traffic.

I would venture to say reactions like this are more of a reason it receives little traffic, assuming everyone knows as much as you do and chasing them away instead of providing simple explanations.

As far as the suggestion goes, this isn't something I would like / support being implemented however; ultimately I wouldn't mind allowing someone to reset some of the things you mention like win %, unique kills towards game medals, etc
But I think total games played, and achievement + contribution medals should stay. Just the game related speed, standard, dub, trip, quad, nuke etc could be reset.

This allows players to still evaluate others total game strength & experience and see clan medals, tournaments, special achievements and contributions but also allow the members to start fresh and enjoy earning medals again and erase a lot of the bad history etc that might interest them.

I agree with this being a chargeable feature, as I wouldn't want to see everyone do it but if it was important enough someone was interested or willing to pay for it, it's better than a multi account or other ways they might go about it.

Also, on the left-side nave, click Medal Stats, and you'll see how far you are from each milestone medal.

I agree achievement, contribution etc. should remain, just like clan medals and the like. They should always be recognised.

How come you would agree with win percentage resetting yet not games played?

To me it's an experience measure, I want to be able to see how experienced someone is overall while understanding someone might want to shoot for high win % or some other new / different goal. While they are doing that, people should still have a decent idea who they are playing. Or be able to reset to zero, but someone else can look up historical stats (overall / standard stats) if they really wanted too.

That's what I was getting at with the potential archive or suchlike, but didn't go into detail. I think being able to reset games played would be essential to the premise of the idea, but as you say, all previously held stats would be visible somehow/somewhere.

I disagree with that statement. Knowing the experience of my opponent doesn't make me change my strategy.
Why do you need to know how much experienced someone is ? So that you can join the game and have an easy win if you know beforehand that he is unexperienced ?
Not saying that you're doing that IcePack, but that's the only reason I can imagine for people wanted this information in general.
It make me think of all this people going to C&A after they joined against a new recruit/low rank and they go on complaining because the guy is playing good so he has to be a multi. They're pissed because they joined a game expecting easy win and they gonna end up losing lot of points.

Not really related to the suggestion, sry about it, but seriously I don't think the experience of a player is a necessary information. Just play best move every turn whoever you're facing.

To the sugg, I think it's non sense to erase win % but keeping the same game played/finished. In the original sugg, Caff said that people that did reset should a symbol notifying they did a reset, that's sufficient.

Ok, if there was a way for it to display new stats but for those who wanted it to see old + new stats (for what we see now which I'll call total stats) then I wouldn't mind including games played as well.

Donelladan wrote:I disagree with that statement. Knowing the experience of my opponent doesn't make me change my strategy.

I said it was a measure of experience, and I didn't say it changed my in game strategy at all.

I already stated a few reasons, none of them were to get easy games or points. You might only see that use but as a clan leader I constantly need to evaluate new players who apply or research our enemies experience in a clan war. Erasing a bunch of player information makes this very, very difficult to get a feel for the players or clans in general. And it would be incredibly annoying to have to take a extra step to look "more" into certain players who've done resets, when scanning through player profiles of potential opponents but at least it would be a manageable solution.
There's more to just playing a single game that's affected by a change like this.

Donelladan wrote:Not really related to the suggestion, sry about it, but seriously I don't think the experience of a player is a necessary information. Just play best move every turn whoever you're facing.

You're narrow focus of what it will change only addresses one area of the site, and doesn't take into account other situations beyond playing a single game.

As I said to Caff, the archive idea has potential if it showed total stats, but a simple symbol after reset is not sufficient.

Perhaps there could be a symbol or simple link which contains the player's statistics from before they reset. It could just show a box with the details or perhaps be something like medal stats.

This is totally irrelevant to the game. I posted here before even in that game. You have view people's walls, ergo you've seen their profiles. Your feign ignorance is sad.

Not sure, also not relevant to this thread, but I don't see the need for more medal stages with the current membership numbers.

Of course I do, but where have you helped?

@llama - perhaps I missed your point. I would assume diamond medals would be a level above platinum, in which case I don't think they can be justified with current membership numbers due to the amount of unique defeats required.
